摘要: There is disclosed a laparoscopy trocar, having a cannula and an obturator for use in inserting the cannula into the abdominal cavity of a patient. The cannula comprises a fluid control valve for opening and closing a fluid flow path from outside the bore of the cannula into the bore of the cannula and the obturator comprises a control means configured to cause the fluid control valve to move between its open and closed positions upon insertion of the obturator into the cannula. A novel tip for the obturator is disclosed comprising a concave bladed front edge formed between a pair of concave tip faces.

In one embodiment, the trocar includes a housing, a cannula extending through the housing, and an insufflation port projecting from the housing. 摘要: A surgical access system includes a cannula assembly and an obturator assembly. The obturator assembly provides an insufflation channel or fluid passage for delivery of insufflation fluids directly to an underlying cavity, e.g., the abdominal cavity. The fluid passage is completely confined within the obturator assembly isolated from the cannula assembly and terminates at a location distal of the cannula assembly such that the insufflation fluids released from the fluid passage are directed toward the abdominal cavity and not within the cannula assembly.

摘要: A valved trocar cannula for insertion into an eye includes a trocar cannula having a distal end configured to be positioned within the eye and a proximal end configured to be positioned outside the eye. An elastomeric membrane or seal is attached to the trocar cannula at the proximal end thereof and restricts a free flow of fluid from within the trocar cannula to outside the proximal end of the trocar cannula. The elastomeric membrane includes at least one slit extending therethrough and is arranged to permit the passage of a surgical instrument through the membrane and into the trocar cannula. The slit may through the elastomeric membrane at an oblique angle along a least a portion of the slit. Pressure applied across a first surface or a second surface of the elastomeric membrane in a vicinity of the slit tends to keep the slit in a closed position.

An inner tube is disposed within the lumen of the outer tube. A cap is connected to the proximal portion of the outer tube. The cap has a recessed portion that defines an interior wall. The recessed portion extends proximally from the lumen of the outer tube. A stopper is configured to be slidably received in the recessed portion of the cap. The stopper has a through hole located on the longitudinal axis and configured to receive the inner tube. An inner seal is interposed between the stopper and the inner tube. An outer seal is interposed between the stopper and the interior wall of the cap.

摘要: A suction control unit placed on an endoscope to control application of suction through at least one of two working channels of the endoscope. The suction unit has first and second valves with first and second valve openings, at a proximal end, that lead through to a distal end, which is adapted to be placed on the first and second ports of the two working channels. The suction unit has a channel extending between the first and second valves, an opening extending from a front wall to a rear wall of the housing and through the channel, and a switcher having a handle and a shaft with a through hole. When the shaft is placed within the opening and in a first position, suction is applied to both the working channels. When the shaft is placed within the opening and in a second position, suction is applied to only one of the two working channels.

摘要: A robotic surgical system is configured with rigid, curved cannulas that extend through the same opening into a patient's body. Surgical instruments with passively flexible shafts extend through the curved cannulas. The cannulas are oriented to direct the instruments towards a surgical site. A teleoperation control system that moves the curved cannulas and their associated instruments in a manner that allows a surgeon to experience intuitive control is disclosed. The flexible shaft instruments are controlled as if extending along a virtual straight line insertion and withdrawal axis. Various port features that support the curved cannulas within the single opening are disclosed. Cannula support fixtures that support the cannulas during insertion into the single opening and mounting to robotic manipulators are disclosed.

Surgical access devices and seal systems are generally provided having one or more valves or seal assemblies to create a closed system between the outside environment and the environment in which the surgical access device is being inserted. The devices of systems can also include a fluid remover in the form of a sorbent element, a scraper element, a wicking element, or any combination thereof that is configured to remove fluid from a working channel of the device or system and/or from a surgical instrument inserted therethrough.
