    摘要: A computer-based stroboscopic interferometric microscope system for measuring the topography of a microscopic vibratory object includes an interferometric microscope equipped with a multiple-color (e.g., LED) or white-light source, a mechanical scanning apparatus for varying the optical path difference between the vibratory object and a reference surface, a camera having a two-dimensional detector array, and digital signal processing apparatus for determining surface height from interference data. Interferograms for each of the detector image points in the field of view are generated simultaneously by scanning the object in a direction approximately perpendicular to the object surface illuminated stroboscopically while recording detector data in digital memory. Recorded interferograms for each image point are then transformed into the spatial frequency domain by Fourier analysis, and the surface height for each corresponding object surface point is obtained by examination of the complex phase as a function of spatial frequency. A complete three-dimensional image of the object surface is then constructed from the height data and corresponding image plane coordinates. The three-dimensional image may be presented on a display or hard copy or written to a storage medium.

    摘要: A lettuce head holding tray is defined in which both the upper tray layer and the lower tray layer are packed side-by-side at packing stations. At a carton loading station, two side-by-side arrays of plungers each are used for packing of discrete layers of the cartons. One array of plungers packs the bottom carton layer; the other array of plungers packs the top carton layer. Two cartons are disposed opened upwardly to the plunger array at the packing station; one carton is disposed to the bottom layer loading plunger array for packing of the bottom layer and the other carton--with its bottom layer previously packed--is disposed to the top layer loanding plunger array for packing of its top layer. The cartons--between the packing of the bottom layer and the packing of the top layer--are conveyed between positions underlying the plunger arrays. Thus each carton has is lower layer packed by the lower layer loading plunger array and then its top layer packed by the upper layer loading plunger array.

    摘要: A broccoli banding machine having an electric DC motor drive actuated by an interrupted optical beam is disclosed. The banding machine includes a plate with a central aperture defining a depending cylinder. The depending cone has a light beam looking across the cylinder which when interrupted keeps arms having band engaging fingers in the band expanded position. Both arms and fingers are mounted above the supporting plate where access and view of arms by the banding and packing worker is provided at all times. Upon gathering broccoli to a bouquet with both hands, the worker places the stalks of the gathered bouquet into the cylinder, interrupting the light beam. Upon such interruption, the arms at the band engaging fingers are cycled into the bunched stalks, the contracted band released to the stalk, the bouquet at the stalks removed from the vicinity of the fingers, and a new rubber band placed upon the centrally disposed fingers. Thereafter, and at the end of a timed cycle, the arms with the band engaging fingers expand the newly installed band, and the cycle repeated. An improved drive is present for the arms in the form of a DC electric motor, which intermittently rotates over approximate 180.degree. intervals at a set and adjustable rate. There results an improved banding operation which ergogenically cooperates with the entirety of the broccoli bunching, banding and packing processes.

    摘要: The phase ambiguity of conventional interferometers may be removed by using two laser diodes of different optical frequency to generate a synthetic wavelength. However, the stability requirements for a two-color interferometric laser gauge that must provide unambiguous determination of the optical fringe order over a large distance can be severe. The invention determines upper limits on the optical wavelength uncertainity and expresses same as a function of optical path difference between object and reference beams, phase measurement errors and the synthetic wavelength. A wavelength stabilization arrangement involves simultaneous servo control of two laser diodes (10, 12) with a single Fabry-Perot etalon (36). An embodiment of the invention demonstrates its effectiveness for long-term stabilized two-color interferometry over a distance of 250 mm, with a 15 .mu.m synthetic wavelength and a repeatability of 40 nm. For periods of less than 1000 seconds, the repeatability is eight nm.

    摘要: Metrology method and apparatus (10) for determining a characteristic of an object's surface. The apparatus includes a multiple wavelength source (12) having an optical output. The source is comprised of a multimode laser diode (18) for simultaneously providing a plurality of wavelengths from which a synthetic wavelength is derived for metrology purposes. The apparatus further includes a beamsplitter (30), preferably a polarizing beam splitter, coupled to the optical output for providing a reference beam (32) and a measurement beam (34), the measurement beam impinging on the surface and the reference beam being phase modulated. The apparatus also includes optical elements and devices for detecting a phase difference between the reference beam and a reflected measurement beam for determining the characteristic of the surface. A diffraction grating (60) is blazed for a nominal characteristic output of the laser diode, such as 785 nanometers, and spatially resolves the various wavelengths of the returned laser light. The resolved wavelengths are provided as two beams by a lens system (62) and are detected by a pair of photodetectors (64, 66). A data processor ( 68) coupled to an output of the photodetectors determines an interferometric phase at the two wavelengths and the surface characteristic.
