Abstract:
The invention provides for peptides and methods of using peptides to block or inhibit a pathogenic autoimmune response to central nervous system components. One class of peptides are antigens derived from mycobacterial heat shock proteins and may immunologically cross-react with or are homologous to myelin components. The peptides can also be derived from myelin components such as 2',3' cyclic nucleotide phosphodiesterase and immunologically cross-react with and/or are homologous to mycobacterial heat shock proteins. A method of the invention involves administering a pharmaceutical composition including at least one peptide to an animal in an amount effective to block or inhibit a pathogenic autoimmune response to central nervous system components. The peptides are useful for the prevention, and treatment of autoimmune inflammatory central nervous system disease.
Abstract:
A device for generating a head on a beverage in a sealed can, when the can is opened, comprising a hollow capsule with first and second compartments communicating via tubes with apertures respective each on the opposite side of the capsule from the side of the chamber with which the tube communicates, and a ballast means for orientating the capsule in a position such that, as one chamber charges with liquid, the capsule is caused to rotate and trap a volume of air therein. The capsule may be cylindrical or more preferably spherical in external shape.
Abstract:
Devices are described for fitting into pressurized individually packaged beverages (typically canned beers, ales and stouts), by which gas at high pressure is stored within the package for jetting into the beverage as the package is opened to atmosphere. One embodiment comprises a length of tube (10) having a gas jetting orifice (14) which in use is submerged below the beverage in a pressurized can having a gaseous headspace, which can be used to charge the tube with gas during the passage of the filled can (16) along a conventional canning line, on which the can is inverted after filling which brings the orifice into the gaseous headspace. A more preferred design of device comprises a molded plastics capsule (34; 50;78) secured near the bottom of a can (20, 88) with an internal, preferably central, pipe (56; 62; 80) to provide a liquid seal to prevent loss of gas when the can is inverted from the upright position, and an airlock when the can is upright, to prevent beverage which has entered the capsule from leaving it when the can is opened to atmosphere. A further design of capsule (96) having a central internal pipe (98) and adapted to be pressurized solely by the ingress of beverage, which is fitted midway down the can (94) but which still only jets gas on opening, is also described.
Abstract:
The electric lamp has a light source (20) in an outer bulb (21). The light source (20) is secured in an envelope (1) by means of an insulator body (40) in which current connection conductors (43) are integrated and which is present in a lamp cap (10) of the reflector lamp. The lamp cap (10) is mechanically connected to a neck portion (5) of the envelope (1). The integrated insulator/current connector body (40, 43) enables electrical contacting, fixation, and mechanical adjustment of the light source (20) in the envelope (1).
Abstract:
A microbiocidal composition comprising: a non-halogenated 2-alkyl-3-isothiazolone, and chlorphenesin and/or an alkane diol, wherein the alkyl group in the non-halogenated 2-alkyl-3-isothiazolone comprises 1 to 4 carbon atoms, the alkane diol comprises from 5 to 12 carbon atoms, and the hydroxyl groups of the alkane diol are vicinally substituted.
Abstract:
A flow-control valve has an outer housing assembly including an outer housing member, a tube fixed to the member and having an inner end remote from the member, and an end collar of high-alloy steel welded on the tube end. An inner housing member is formed of nonferrous metal with an inlet port and an outlet port and a valve seat between the ports. The end collar is seated in the inner housing member and a valve stem has an outer end at the outer housing member and an inner end projecting into the inner housing member and guided in the end collar, extending through the tube between the members, and carrying a valve body sealingly engageable with the seat. A connecting sleeve engaged around and fitted snugly to the end collar and inner member has an outer ring of high-alloy steel welded to the end collar and an inner ring of nonferrous metal, fixed integrally to the outer ring, and welded to the inner member.

Abstract:
The invention relates to an inhalation device by which powdered material can be inhaled. A plurality of powder containers, each having a powder containing depression therein, may be individually fed to a use station which cooperates with an inhalation means. The inhalation means includes an outlet communicating with the open container by a passage, which passage has a wall means which cooperates with the powder containing depression to define a venturi.
