    摘要: A portable printer for printing on a roll of paper or label stock is provided having automatic print alignment with the width of the roll. The portable printer has a housing having a compartment for receiving the roll, a cover to access the roll, and a centering mechanism for the roll. The centering mechanism has two rotatable spindle members in the compartment engageable with the opposing ends of the roll's tubular core, and a pair of racks each coupled to one of the spindle members, and to each other by a gear, to enable each of the spindle members to move in opposite directions with respect to a center between the spindle members. The position of centering mechanism is optically, magnetically, or electro-mechanically encoded and a sensor reads the encoded position of the centering mechanism. A controller automatically aligns printing with respect to the roll's width in accordance with the encoded position read by the sensor, thereby preventing printing outside the width of the paper from the roll. The centering mechanism may be locked when the cover is closed to prevent movement of the gear, and the spindle members and racks coupled thereto. A removable RF communication module may be provided in the printer to enable communication with a host terminal or computer system.

    摘要: A joint (10) is described for connecting a pair of beams to pivot them between positions in alignment or beside one another, which is of light weight and which operates in a controlled manner. The joint includes a pair of fittings (16, 18), and at least one center link (20) having opposite ends pivotally connected to opposite fittings and having axes (36, 38) that pass through centerplanes (36, 38) of the fittings. A control link (24) having opposite ends pivotally connected to the different fittings controls their relative orientations, and a toggle assembly (26) holds the fittings in the deployed configuration wherein they are aligned. The fittings have stops (28, 30) that lie on one side of the centerplane opposite the toggle assembly.

    摘要: A portable data collection device is provided for reading fluorescent indicia, such as barcodes. The device includes a housing with a pivotable image capture module. The image capture module includes an adjustable aperture, a color detector array for imaging light received through the aperture, and a removable flash module to provide ultraviolet light. Optics in the image capture module focus the light received through the aperture onto the detector array, in which the detector array is movable with respect to the lens to provide proper focus of an image onto the detector array. The adjustable aperture has an iris wheel to control the amount of light received by the detector array. A programmed controller is provided in the housing which operates responsive to a user interface to image and decode indicia, or capture color digital images in memory. A display on the housing shows images received by the detector array in a non-fluorescent imaging mode to target indicia to be imaged and decoded, where the controller automatically adjusts the focus of the image by adjusting the focal distance between the detector array and the lens. In response to user actuation via the user interface, the controller energizes the flash module to emit light, including the excitation wavelength(s), which enable the indicia to fluoresce, and the detector array receives fluorescent light to capture an image frame of the indicia. The duration of the flash is in accordance with the amount of light measured by a light sensor in the image capture module. The indicia in the image frame is then decoded by the controller to provide data representative of the indicia.

    摘要: A miniature printer is provided with a printer mechanism in a housing. A thermal printhead is fixedly mounted in the mechanism. The mechanism and the housing define a compartment for a roll of paper which is loosely disposed in the housing and is extended over the thermal printhead. The compartment is closed by a cover hinged to the housing at one end thereof. A platen roller is located in the cover in an opening larger than the shaft of the roller, which opening and cover provides a floating mount for the platen roller. A driven gear which rotates the platen roller is mounted on the shaft near one end thereof. A pair of hairpin springs have ends which are located in the path which the platen roller takes as the cover is closed and moves into engagement with the platen roller. These springs are deflected backwardly away from the printhead as the platen roller passes over the springs and then toward the printhead so as to reseat a portion of the springs to the platen roller shaft, and specifically to bushings on opposite sides of the platen roller on the shaft. The springs align the platen roller with the printing elements on the printhead and bias the platen roller into engagement with the printhead, while latching the platen roller and the cover in closed position. The driven gear on the shaft also is aligned with the last gear of a train of gears from a motor to drive the platen. The housing mounts the electronics of the printer, which are on a printed circuit board, and also a magnetic card reader. Another cover extends from the cover carrying the platen roller and covers the housing while exposing an opening in the magnetic card reader across which a magnetic card may be swiped for reading the data on the magnetic track of the card.
