摘要: A portable data collection device is provided for reading fluorescent indicia, such as barcodes. The device includes a housing with a pivotable image capture module. The image capture module includes an adjustable aperture, a color detector array for imaging light received through the aperture, and a removable flash module to provide ultraviolet light. Optics in the image capture module focus the light received through the aperture onto the detector array, in which the detector array is movable with respect to the lens to provide proper focus of an image onto the detector array. The adjustable aperture has an iris wheel to control the amount of light received by the detector array. A programmed controller is provided in the housing which operates responsive to a user interface to image and decode indicia, or capture color digital images in memory. A display on the housing shows images received by the detector array in a non-fluorescent imaging mode to target indicia to be imaged and decoded, where the controller automatically adjusts the focus of the image by adjusting the focal distance between the detector array and the lens. In response to user actuation via the user interface, the controller energizes the flash module to emit light, including the excitation wavelength(s), which enable the indicia to fluoresce, and the detector array receives fluorescent light to capture an image frame of the indicia. The duration of the flash is in accordance with the amount of light measured by a light sensor in the image capture module. The indicia in the image frame is then decoded by the controller to provide data representative of the indicia.

摘要: A portable hand-held image recording device for generating and storing information representative of a two dimensional image includes a compact image scanning apparatus, a microprocessor, memory, and associated control software. The compact image scanning apparatus includes a light emitting diode array to provide a source of light, a focusing element to create a scan line on the image, a lens array to transmit light reflected off of the image, and an image sensor to convert the light reflected off of the image into electronic information. A scanning subassembly is provided to accurately track movement of the recording device across the image and to incrementally scan discrete portions of the image by controlling energization of the light emitting diode array.

摘要: An intelligent, portable printer is provided having a controller and a printing mechanism. The controller includes a microprocessor which communicates with a terminal, which may be remote from the printer and may include or be a host computer, via cable, radio, or optical interfaces. The terminal supplies application programs and data representing commands and information to be printed. In one embodiment, the controller of the printer can operate the printer mechanism in accordance with received data when the data is preceded by a command addressing the product-type predefined for the printer. In another embodiment, the controller operates responsive to a wake-up signal from the terminal for automatically turning on the printer from a low powered state. In a further embodiment, an antenna in the printer receives RF signals from the terminal and circuitry is provided for enabling power to the controller from the printer's power source when the RF signals received represent a wake-up signal or code, thereby turning on the printer.

摘要: A high density memory module in which memory chips are mounted in an array of rows and columns on a printed circuit board. The circuit board includes groups of serpentine parallel conductors which extend along adjacent columns for connecting corresponding power, ground, control, address and data pins between the adjacent columns to one another. Adjacent groups of serpentine parallel conductors are nested within one another. According to the invention, high density packaging is provided for large chip arrays, using a minimum number to vias to interior board layers, and minimum interchip spacing.

摘要: Power may be conserved and battery life may be extended in a microprocessor controlled device by providing two microprocessors, one of which is a low power, low performance low speed processor for performing background tasks, the other of which is a high power, high performance, high speed processor for performing computationally intensive foreground tasks. The low speed processor activates the high speed processor when a high performance task is to be performed. When activating the high performance processor, the low performance processor also controls the device's power supply to provide high voltage to the high speed processor. The high speed processor may run at variable clock speeds, with power consumption of the processor increasing with increasing speed. The high speed processor selects its own clock speed based upon the task to be performed, by including a clock speed in each software subroutine which controls a task. The software subroutine associated with a task is thereby executed at its associated clock speed, which may be chosen to be the lowest possible clock speed consistent with the task to be performed.
