    摘要: Solar/gas hybrid concentrating solar power (CSP) systems and methods of using the CSP systems are described. The hybrid CSP systems are highly efficient due, at least in part, to a solar segment comprising a first heat transfer fluid and a thermal storage segment comprising a second heat transfer fluid. The second heat transfer fluid heat exchanges with a steam segment to produce steam that drives a steam turbine. Thus, the solar and thermal segments perform the “heavy lifting” of producing steam from water. Once the steam is produced, it enters a superheater of the steam segment. The superheater, which does not heat exchange directly with the thermal storage segment, is heated by a gas turbine positioned downstream from the thermal storage segment.

    摘要: A self-draining solar collector system includes one or more solar collector assemblies, a manifold connecting assembly, and a crossover connecting assembly. Each solar collector assembly includes a collector support subsystem, one or more heating pipes, and one or more parabolic reflectors. The manifold connecting assembly connects the heating pipes of each solar collector assembly to a manifold disposed at a lower elevation than the heating pipes of the solar collector assemblies when the solar collector assemblies are oriented in respective draining positions. The crossover connecting assembly connects the heating pipes of each solar collector assembly to a crossover pipe disposed at a higher elevation than the heating pipes of the solar collector assemblies when the solar collector assemblies are oriented in their respective draining positions.

    摘要: Described herein are linear receivers for use in concentrating solar collection applications. For example, linear receivers incorporating a volume displacement element within an internal volume of a linear solar radiation absorbing element are provided. The volume displacement element provides, for example, enhanced heat transfer characteristics between the absorber element and the heat transfer fluid, efficiency improvements associated with maintaining a position of the linear receiver at an optimal location for absorbing concentrated solar radiation and/or the ability to recover the linear receiver from a freeze event. Also provided are methods for making a linear receiver, methods for collecting concentrated solar radiation, methods for recovering a linear receiver from a freeze event, methods for improving overall receiver efficiency, such as by reducing bowing/sagging of the receiver element, and methods for reducing a circumferential temperature distribution of the absorber element.

    摘要: A space frame having a high torsional strength comprising a first square bipyramid and two planar structures extending outward from an apex of the first square bipyramid to form a “V” shape is disclosed. Some embodiments comprise a plurality of edge-sharing square bipyramids configured linearly, where the two planar structures contact apexes of all the square bipyramids. A plurality of bridging struts, apex struts, corner struts and optional internal bracing struts increase the strength and rigidity of the space frame. In an embodiment, the space frame supports a solar reflector, such as a parabolic solar reflector. Methods of fabricating and using the space frames are also disclosed.
