Abstract:
Device, process and program for determining and alerting a user of the existence of nearby acquaintance, including: providing a first electronic communication device having near-field transmitting and receiving communications capability, a user interface and control circuitry; transmitting from the first communication device an inquiry to determine the presence in the near-field of a compatible second electronic communication device; upon receipt of a positive response to the inquiry, transmitting from the first communication device anonymous user indicia; receiving anonymous user indicia from the second communication device; coordinating the received anonymous user indicia to determine the presence of any matches between the transmitted anonymous user information and the received anonymous user indicia; and providing either a list of matches or an indication of no matches to the user via the user interface. Based on the information exchanged, the users can determine whether a relationship between the users exists or might be created.
Abstract:
A technique for obtaining caller-originated alert signals in IP-based communication sessions is disclosed. According to one embodiment, the technique may be realized as a method comprising the steps of: receiving, from a first user equipment and via a first communication channel, a request to initiate a communication session, the request being received at a second user equipment; in response to the request, causing a phonepage server to transmit, via a second communication channel, a caller-originated alert to the second user equipment; and rendering the caller-originated alert to alert a user associated with the second user equipment.
Abstract:
An electronic device is operated based on whether it detects vibration indicative of natural human tremors while the device is not enclosed in a small space. Human tremors are detected by sampling a motion signal and performing a discrete Fourier transformation on a plurality of sets of samples. For each sample, a mean magnitude is calculated for a first range of frequencies indicative of human tremors. A mean magnitude is also calculated for a second range of frequencies greater than the first range. If the difference between the mean magnitude of the first range and the mean magnitude of the second range, then human tremors are detected for the set of samples. Human tremors are detected for the device if a threshold number of sets of samples within a predetermined time period produce an output indicating detection.
Abstract:
A method of accessing In Case of Emergency ICE information in a mobile entity (100); the method comprises the steps of: actuating a state transition of a key (105) of the mobile entity (100); presenting a menu for selecting at least one operational mode of said mobile entity (100) as a response to said actuating of the key (105); wherein said menu further comprises an option of retrieving ICE information accessible from a memory of said mobile entity (100); receiving said ICE information from said memory by selecting said option of retrieving ICE information in said menu among said options representing operational modes of said mobile entity (100); and rendering said ICE information, whereby said ICE information is accessed (303).
Abstract:
The invention relates to a method and an electric device comprising a screen (110), cooperating with said screen a sensor for detecting a presence of an object on or close to said screen, a controller (120) and a feedback element (140). The controller (120) is configured to interpret said presence of the object and calculate a force value and control said feedback element (140) to provide a feedback with respect to the force value.
Abstract:
A rendering device dynamically varies how audio and visual information is rendered by a rendering device responsive to changes in distance between the rendering device and a mobile device carried by a user. As the user moves about, the distance between the rendering device and the mobile device carried by the user will vary. As the distance between the mobile device and the rendering device changes, the rendering system can dynamically adapt how the audio and visual information is rendered. For example, the rendering device can increase or decrease the volume of an audio output, depending on changes in the distance. Also, the rendering device can change how visual information is rendered on a display responsive to changes in distance. In some embodiments, when the distance between the mobile device and rendering device exceeds a predetermined distance, the audio and/or visual information may be sent to the mobile device.
Abstract:
Wireless electronic devices may include a ground plane and a metal perimeter around the ground plane. The metal perimeter may include a planar user input component including an outer surface that is substantially coplanar with an outer surface of an adjacent portion of the metal perimeter.
Abstract:
A method and device are provided for providing a dynamic gaming environment. Physical circumstance information relating to a gaming device, such as ambient conditions or geographic location information, may be identified. A gaming application executing on the gaming device may provide or modify a gaming environment based on the identified physical circumstances information.
Abstract:
A device may play a content item and detect an event while the content item is playing. The device may also determine a position, within the content item, at which the content item is playing when the event is detected, to obtain position information. In addition, the device may associate the position information with information obtained based on the event to generate a log entry. The device may update an experience log with the log entry.
