Abstract:
A method and apparatus may improve success rate and time of call-setup while a mobile station is experiencing high interference. The method checks (255) if a mobile station is experiencing high-interference. This may occur when the mobile station fails to decode a paging channel of a serving cell (235) to read a first page. Upon determining that the mobile station is experiencing high-interference, the mobile station selects a set of cells (260) having the same location area identifier as the serving cell from a list of top neighboring cells, and selects a cell (265) from the set of cells, and synchronizes (270) with a base station of the selected cell. After synchronizing, the mobile station decodes the paging channel of the selected cell (275) and reads a second page from the paging channel of the selected cell including identical information data as the first page.
Abstract:
A method of saving power in a wireless network can include determining a plurality of stations associated with an AP. The AP can create station groups using group selection logic. Notably, the group selection logic is transparent to the plurality of stations. A plurality of TIMs can then be sent, each TIM allowing only one station group access to a channel during a predetermined time interval, such as a beacon interval. In another method, a station can determine its sleep duration based on at least one of first information from the TIM to generate random sleep duration, second information regarding previous operation of the station, and third information regarding a status of the station. The first, second, and third information can include the number of stations associated with the AP and having buffered data based on the TIM, historical collisions, and power status.
Abstract:
A method and system for increasing the standby battery life of a GSM mobile device. The method increases the standby battery life of a GSM mobile device by reducing monitoring of the serving cell's paging messages using a deterministic and adaptive procedure with zero impact on call performance, where the procedure reduces the frequency of reception of valid paging messages, intended for the device in the Paging Channel, by lengthening paging-read interval.
Abstract:
The present disclosure provides techniques for rate adaptation under congestion and latency constraints. The approaches described herein focus on aspects of latency, reliability, and power consumption instead of the traditional aspect of throughput. In an example, a method for rate adaptation is disclosed. The method may include determining whether to transmit a new packet or a retry packet. The method may also include reducing a maximum rate for a rate search in response to determining to transmit the retry packet. The method may further include transmitting the retry packet based on the reduced maximum rate.

Abstract:
This disclosure describes techniques for operating a client device to communicate with a wireless access point to validate data within a frame by comparing channel quality metrics and duration metrics to thresholds. Information received within a validity window may be treated as correctly received even if the frame fails a subsequent verification process or if reception of the frame is terminated prior to the end of the frame.
Abstract:
Disclosed is a system for improving the overall battery life of a GSM device according to an optimization mechanism for suspending neighbor-cell scanning in a GSM wireless communication system, the system having a wireless device including: (a) a Central Processing Unit (CPU) executing software programs intended to comply with GSM protocol specifications; (b) an RF transmission unit and an RF reception unit functioning either independently or as a single unit; (c) a specialized Digital Signal Processor being able to process received signal at a corresponding receiving antenna and offering estimates of the received signal level and quality; (d) a logic process by which the mobile terminal powers off an RF module thereof for a definite period of time and wakes up at a pre-determined interval to listen to paging messages transmitted thereto; and (e) firmware/software performing neighbor cell monitoring in compliance with a protocol mandated by GSM standards.
