    Abstract: A recoil starter capable of readily staring an engine and reducing the number of components and manufacturing costs thereof and reducing a size and weight thereof. The recoil starter is so constructed that a rotational force accumulated in a cushioning and force accumulating means interposed between a rope reel and a cam is transmitted via the cam to a drive pulley, to thereby start the engine. A ratchet mechanism is provided between the rope reel and the cam so as to uncouple the cam from the rope reel when the rope reel is rotated in an engine starting direction and so as to couple the cam to the rope reel when the rope reel is rotated in a direction opposite to the engine starting direction, thus rotating the cam and the rope reel together in said opposite direction.

    Abstract: A recoil starter includes a case with a support shaft formed thereon; a rope reel rotatably disposed on the support shaft; a recoil rope wound on the rope reel; a recoil spring that rotationally energizes the rope reel; a cam of an engine side; a power storing spring interposed between the rope reel and the cam; and a ratchet mechanism interposed between the rope reel and the cam. The ratchet mechanism includes: a ratchet shaft formed on the rope reel, a ratchet member having: a base portion oscillatably and slidably supported through an elongated hole on the ratchet shaft, and a ratchet pawl engageable with an engaging portion of the cam, and an energizer that energizes the base portion toward an uneven inner peripheral surface of the case.

    Abstract: A recoil starter capable of introducing cooling air into an engine through the recoil starter and reducing a size and weight thereof. Annular recesses are formed in opposing joint surfaces of a rope reel and a cam, respectively, in a manner to face each other. A damper spring is received in the annular recesses while opposite ends thereof are respectively held at the rope reel and the cam so that the rope reel and the cam are rotationally coupled together via the damper spring. Air inlets for introducing air for cooling the engine are formed in a side wall of a casing. Air passages facing the air inlets of the casing are formed between a drum portion at an outer periphery of the rope reel and a boss portion forming the annular recess of the rope reel.

    Abstract: A recoil starter has a starter case provided around a starter shaft. A one-way clutch mechanism is formed between one end of the starter shaft and an engine. A reel is mounted rotatably on the starter shaft and a rope is wound in a groove of the reel. A first spiral spring has its ends fixed respectively to the starter case and reel and urges the reel in the direction in which the rope is taken up. A second spiral spring has its ends fixed respectively to the reel and transmits a rotational force of the reel to the starter shaft when the rope is drawn out. The peak load at the engine starting time is absorbed in the second spiral spring.

    Abstract: A rotary cutter for a mower is provided wherein the cord delivering operation, which is necessary when the free end of the cord is worn, is carried out only when the rotary cutter is rotated at a low speed or is stopped. The rotary cutter includes a cord for cutting grass upon rotation thereof, a reel which holds the cord and allows delivering of the cord while the reel is intermittently rotated, a cover for a case which houses the reel, and a press body which protrudes downwardly from the case and is movable in an axial direction upon pressing so as to intermittently rotate the reel. A return spring for biasing the press body in a direction to protrude the press body from the case between the reel and the press body is also provided. The press body and the case engage each other such that the press body is slidable in an axial direction while preventing relative rotation with each other. By pressing the press body against the biasing return spring, a set of protrusions formed on the press body are detachably engaged with protrusions formed on the reel so as to intermittently rotate the reel.

    Abstract: A recoil starter casing is made from a plate. The plate has a polygonal top face and a plurality of rectangular side faces integral with and extending from respective edges of the top face. Each of the side faces includes a recess in its edge, and a pair of projections at opposite ends of the recess. A plurality of air inlets are formed in the side faces. The side faces are bent from the top face along the respective edges of the top face. A fan cover has slots. The projections are inserted into the corresponding slots. The free ends of the projections are then bent so as to secure the starter casing to the fan cover. The inside of the starter casing is cooled through the air inlets and the recesses or air vents.
