摘要: A method of operating an electrochemical conversion assembly is provided where a shut down sequence is introduced where a substantially dry gas is driven through the cathode flow field. The dry gas is supplied for an amount of time sufficient to reduce the water content of the proton exchange membrane to a level sufficient to suppress corrosion and catalyst dissolution in the membrane electrode assembly. Additional embodiments are disclosed.

摘要: A fuel cell system that employs a method for determining the potential that a freeze condition will exist after the system is shut-down based on predetermined input, such as ambient temperature, geographical location, user usage profile, date, weather reports, etc. If the system determines that a freeze condition is probable, then the system initiates a purge shut-down of the fuel cell system where water is purged out of the reactant gas flow channels. If the system determines that a freeze condition is unlikely, then it will initiate a normal shut-down procedure without purging the flow channels. The system will then periodically determine if the conditions have changed, and will initiate the purge if a freeze condition subsequently becomes probable.

摘要: Disclosed herein are fluid distribution methods and assemblies for supplying fluid to test assemblies. One embodiment of a fluid distribution assembly comprises at least two input lines each configured to supply a fluid. A source selection component is connected to the input lines and configured to receive the fluid of the input lines and select from the fluids a target fluid. A range selection component is configured to receive the target fluid and to select a flow range of the target fluid, outputting the target fluid to a flow component comprising a first flow adjustment component having a first flow rate resolution and a second flow adjustment component having a second flow rate resolution. The range selection component is configured to selectively output the target fluid to one of the first flow adjustment component and the second flow adjustment component based on the selected flow range.

摘要: A fuel cell electrocatalyst layer having increased voltage cycling durability. The electrocatalyst layer comprises annealed platinum particles having an average particle size diameter from about 3 to about 15 nm deposited on a support structure. The platinum particles are annealed at a temperature from about 800 to about 1,400° C. for a time period such that the surface area is reduced by about 20% as compared to the original surface area. In various embodiments, the electrocatalyst layer retains an electrochemical surface area that is greater than 50% of an original electrochemical surface area after about 15,000 voltage cycles in the range from about 0.6 to about 1.0 V.
