    摘要: Embodiments herein include a resilient add-drop module for use in one of multiple access subnetwork nodes forming an access subnetwork ring. The module comprises a dual-arm passive optical filter and a cyclic arrayed waveguide grating (AWG). The dual-arm passive optical filter is configured to resiliently drop any wavelength channels within a fixed band uniquely allocated to the access subnetwork node from either arm of the access subnetwork ring and to resiliently add any wavelength channels within the fixed band to both arms of the access subnetwork ring. The cyclic AWG is correspondingly configured to demultiplex wavelength channels dropped by the dual-arm filter and to multiplex wavelength channels to be added by the dual-arm filter. Configured in this way, the module in at least some embodiments advantageously reduces the complexity and accompanying cost of nodes in an optical network, while also providing resilience against fiber and node failures.

    摘要: An optical network unit (ONU) accesses services provided by multiple optical line terminals (OLTs) in a wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) passive optical network (PON). The ONU receives downstream signals from a first plurality of OLTs through a designated port of an arrayed waveguide (AWG). At any given time, the bandpass filter module can select any one of a first plurality of AWG cycles allocated to the first plurality of OLTs. Based on received downstream signals, the ONU transmits upstream signals to a second plurality of OLTs through the designated port of the AWG. At any given time, the bandpass filter module and a transmitter of the ONU can select any one of a second plurality of AWG cycles allocated to the second plurality of OLTs. The ONU may be configured with a plurality of receivers and transmitters, whereby it is enabled to simultaneously subscribe to a plurality of AWG cycles.

    摘要: Methods and apparatus are disclosed for performing a spectrum assignment and route selection algorithm in an optical WDM network. The optical WDM is assigned an optical band of frequencies. In accordance to the present invention, a new spectrum assignment in the optical band always adjoins a spectrum assignment previously allocated. The very first spectrum assignment may be made to start with one end frequency in the optical band. Given a spectrum demand, one or more spectrum assignments are identified and one or more feasible routes are determined. Among the one or more feasible routes, an optimal route may be selected based on a set of pre-defined criteria. The spectrum assignment and route selection algorithm disclosed herein reduces computational complexities and improves spectrum efficiencies.

    摘要: A method provides advertisements to optical network units (ONUs) by an optical line terminal (OLT), wherein the advertisements enable the ONUs to identify free channels from a plurality of wavelength-division multiplexing (WDM) channels in a passive optical network (PON). The method includes: transmitting from the OLT to the ONUs an advertisement identifying a free channel for each of a plurality of incompatible channel (ICH) groups, receiving a request from an ONU for the advertised free channel of an ICH group, authenticating the requesting ONU via the advertised free channel, allocating the advertised free channel to the requesting ONU upon successful authentication of the requesting ONU, and transmitting an updated advertisement from the OLT to the ONUs.
