The heat exchanger is mounted in the outer wall (5) of the housing and comprises two chambers (6, 7) which are mutually separated by a liquid-impervous partition wall (8) which comprises part of the housing wall. The inwardly located chamber (7) is through-passed by the liquid medium (3) enclosed in the housing, while the outwardly located chamber (6) is through-passed by a cooling medium. The heat exchanger (4) is so positioned that a pressure difference is created between the inlet (13) and the outlet (16) of the inwardly located chamber (7) under the influence of movement of the movable mechanical elements (2) therewith obviating the need of a separate pump for driving the medium (3) to be cooled through the heat exchanger.

The partition wall is surrounded by a cylindrical sleeve-like outer wall (4) extending coaxially with the partition wall in spaced relationship therewith, and having its axial ends sealingly connected to the partition wall (1), and provided with an inlet (5) and an outlet (6) for the second medium so as to define a flow chamber for the second medium. At least the major part of the sleeve-like outer wall (4) is elastically flexible. This flexibility allows the dimension of the flow chamber to vary with changes in volumetric flow, thereby counter-acting blocking tendencies. The outer wall (4) can also be manipulated manually to loosen blockages. It also gives freeze protection.

The central chamber (6) and either of the two control chambers (9,10) communicate in all adjustment positions with the control grooves (7,8), which can be caused to open to only one of the sealing gaps (11 or 12) at a time. The centering spring (13) centers the slide from the positions of movement where there is flow connection between the central chamber (6) and either of the two control chambers (9,10), and the flow direction is in the converging direction of the sealing gaps (18,19) whereby, the hydraulic flow can pass between the central chamber (6) and one of the two control chambers (9,10) at a time in the direction in which the sealing gaps converge in the flow direction.
