Abstract: The present invention provides a feedback controlled bioculture platform for use as a precision cell biology research tool and for clinical cell growth and maintenance applications. The system provides individual closed-loop flowpath cartridges, with integrated, aseptic sampling and routing to collection vials or analysis systems. The system can operate in a standard laboratory or other incubator for provision of requisite gas and thermal environment. System cartridges are modular and can be operated independently or under a unified system controlling architecture, and provide for scale-up production of cell and cell products for research and clinical applications. Multiple replicates of the flowpath cartridges allow for individual, yet replicate cell culture growth and multiples of the experiment models that can be varied according to the experiment design, or modulated to desired cell development of cell culture end-points. The integral flowpath cartridge aseptic sampling system provides for dynamic analysis of metabolic products or representative cells from the culture.

Abstract: A form reader especially for lottery forms with handwritten marks or bar codes includes a drum transport engaging the form, and a stepping motor advances the form circularly along a path around the drum, passing through a linear reading station elongated perpendicularly to the path. A light source illuminates the form at the read station and reflected light is incident on an elongated array of charge coupled device (CCD) light sensors via a focusing lens arrangement. An analog comparator coupled to a serial output of the CCD sensors digitizes encode and encodes each pixel in the elongated array repetitively during transport, sampling the reflectance of the form and defining an X-Y array of pixels. A digital processor coupled to an image memory analyzes the data for predetermined patterns such as handwritten marks, printed reference marks and/or printed bar code or OCR characters on the form. A throat sensor detects the form at an inlet to the reader for initiating operation of the stepping motor when the form is present. Form guides align the form generally to the transport path, and can be laterally movable for aligning one or both edges of the form to the transport path.

Abstract: An infant training tumbler includes an upright tubular housing within which is an upright internal web that divides the housing into a pair of longitudinal compartments. Affixed upon the upper end of the housing is a cap that completes a closure of the upper end of that one compartment. Openings in the cap permit the egress of liquid from the cap upon tilting of the housing. The geometrical relationships are such that the compartment is opposite the egress opening so that, upon a dropping of the housing, the openings are in a position that prevents significant spillage.

Abstract: A drain guard is disclosed having a tubular body with a funnel-shaped portion at its upper end. The tubular body has an annular recess extending about the inside periphery thereof proximate the bottom end of the guard. The recess receives a sealing grommet therein for sealing the space between a tube on which the guard is positioned and the inner periphery of the tubular portion of the guard. Stop lugs are positioned about the inner periphery of the tubular portion of the guard at the junction of the funnel-shaped end portion thereof for limiting the upward movement of the tube on which the guard is positioned through the drain guard. A liquid permeable seat is positioned on the funnel-shaped end portion of the drain to permit the ingress of water or other liquids with respect to the drain guard. In an alternative embodiment of the invention, a rubber grommet is affixed to the inside periphery of the drain guard at the junction of the tubular and funnel shaped portions thereof with the grommet serving to limit the upward movement of the tube on which the guard is positioned and to seal the space between the guard and the tube to inhibit the passage of liquids therebetween.
