Abstract: The present embodiments relate generally to a method and apparatus of capturing and releasing magnetically activated cells. Embodiments include a microfluidic device capable of capturing a large array of magnetically functionalized cells and releasing any one specific captured cell without releasing the rest of the cells. Methods and devices according to embodiments provide an improvement over current microfluidic cell sorting approaches due to the use of a simple mechanism, which simultaneously allows for high selectivity, and high throughput potential.

Abstract: Disclosed are a rare cell capture system and an application thereof. The system comprises a fluid tube device, a circulation power apparatus device, a component capture device and an optional anticoagulant release device, the circulation power apparatus device and the component capture device being connected in series to a fluid circulation system via the fluid tube device to form an extracorporeal fluid circulation pathway, the component capture device comprising a microfluidic chip or a chipset. Also disclosed is a method for using the capture system to capture rare cells in blood. The system and the application thereof have the advantages of being large-capacity, in-line and low-hemolysis.

Abstract: A laser processing machine for killing specific cells from a group of cells on a surface of a layer containing an ingredient capable of absorbing laser light, the laser processing machine being configured to: control a laser light source to output laser light at 5W or less and at a wavelength of 380 nm or greater such that the laser light source is applied to a second area on a second surface of the layer opposed to the first surface; and control an actuator to provide a relative movement between the second area where the laser light is applied and the layer at a rate of 2000 mm/sec or less such that the irradiated second area absorbs energy to generate heat that kills unwanted cells on a first area of the first surface and the laser light does not instantly kill the specific cells on the first area upon irradiation.

Abstract: A cell capture system including an array, an inlet manifold, and an outlet manifold. The array includes a plurality of parallel pores, each pore including a chamber and a pore channel, an inlet channel fluidly connected to the chambers of the pores; an outlet channel fluidly connected to the pore channels of the pores. The inlet manifold is fluidly connected to the inlet channel, and the outlet channel is fluidly connected to the outlet channel. A cell removal tool is also disclosed, wherein the cell removal tool is configured to remove a captured cell from a pore chamber.

Abstract: Cell separation systems and methods of separating cells are disclosed. In an embodiment, a cell separation system is described that comprises a non-transitory storage device that executes a centrifugation program to separate cell volume from biologic material volume; a heating mechanism; a containment mechanism; and an assembly comprised of a single-walled centrifugation bowl. In an embodiment, methods of separating cells are disclosed whereby cells are separated by agitating a volume of biologic material and a volume digestion media to form a digested volume of biologic material; centrifuging the digested volume of biologic material; removing a portion of a resulting waste via at least one fluid outlet; isolating a different portion of the waste, and removing the concentrated cell volumes from the reservoir.
