摘要: The illustrative embodiments described herein provide an apparatus and method for detecting tampering. The apparatus includes a printer and a printer compartment located within the printer. The apparatus also includes a switch capable of being coupled to the printer compartment. The switch is adapted to close when tampering with the printer compartment occurs. The apparatus includes a tamper detection device capable of being in a tamper state and a non-tamper state. The tamper detection device discharges and places the tamper detection device in the tamper state when the switch is closed to indicate that tampering has occurred. The apparatus includes a set of power sources. The set of power sources provides charge to the tamper detection device and places the tamper detection device in the non-tamper state.

摘要: A system for enabling reliable verification of items being purchased using a self checkout system. The self checkout system is equipped with a verification mark dispenser and verification mark detectors that respectively dispenses a mark on an item as the item is being scanned for purchasing and then verifies, by detecting the mark on the item, that the item being bagged (or passed through the tunnel) is the same item that was scanned. When a customer scans an item for purchase, and if purchase transaction is successful, a mark (made of a non-reactive but detectable material or ink) is placed on the exterior packaging of the item. When the item is placed in the tunnel, the detector, sensitive to the activation of the specific marking and located at or in the tunnel, detects the marking on the item. If the activated marking is not detected by the detector, an alert condition is triggered.

摘要: An apparatus is provided for an infrared touch system that decreases solar interference. The infrared touch system includes a mounting board, which has a number of sides that encompass an area. The infrared touch system includes a number of optical detectors and optical sources mounted along the edges on the mounting board. The optical detectors and optical sources are aligned such that a central portion of a beam pattern of each optical source is directed transversely across the opening toward one of the optical detectors so that solar interference will be decreased.

摘要: Apparatus is provided to limit the current drawn from a power supply output connected to furnish power to a docking station or electronic device, when a fault connects the output to ground or other docking connection. The power supply is disconnected when such fault is present during power-up. In one embodiment, the apparatus controllably limits current delivered to a docking station and a mobile device connected thereto. The apparatus includes a switch device located along a current path extending between the power supply and docking station, to regulate current flow. A current limiting entity operates the switch device to prevent current flow, when the fault affects the circuit, and current through the path exceeds a pre-specified threshold level. The pre-specified current threshold level can be less than the current level provided to the docking station and mobile device without said fault. A disabling component de-activates the current limiting entity, when current is flowing to the charging station but the current is unaffected by the fault.

摘要: A method and system for enabling reliable verification of items being purchased using a self checkout system. When a customer scans an item for purchase, the purchase transaction is processed and, if the item is successfully purchased (i.e., transaction confirmed), a mark (made of a non-reactive but detectable material or ink) is placed on the exterior packaging of the item. When the item is placed in the tunnel, the detector, sensitive to the activation of the specific marking and located at or in the tunnel, detects the marking on the item. If the activated marking is not detected by the detector, an alert condition is triggered indicating that an un-purchased product is being placed in the customer's sack.
