    摘要: The optical module includes a main housing to which the optical fiber can be attached and a light-emitting component and a light-receiving component attached to the main housing. At least a part of a surface of the main housing has an irregular pattern to enhance a thermal dissipation. Because at least part of the main housing comprises a heat sink, so the optical module itself has a very high heat dissipation property, eliminating the type of problems that arise when adhesive or the like is used to attach to the main housing heat sinks constituted as separate parts, such as the increase in the number of parts and the degradation in thermal conductivity to the heat sink caused by the adhesive.

The method includes a preparing process of a forming die for preparing a forming die having a concavoconvex pattern corresponding to a layout pattern of the bar-like polarizing members, a forming process of a concavoconvex pattern on a resin layer for forming a resin layer directly or indirectly on a substrate and pressing the forming die onto the resin layer so as to form a concavoconvex pattern on the resin layer, a forming process of bar-like polarizing members for forming the bar-like polarizing members in the foregoing layout pattern using the concavoconvex pattern of the resin layer, and a forming process of a polarizing matrix layer for forming the light-transmittable polarizing matrix layer so as to bury the formed bar-like polarizing members. Accordingly, the polarizing plate of the resonance absorption effect type can be obtained, which is low in price, massproducible, high in extinction ratio, high in performance and high in reliability.

The module includes an optical waveguide chip and a pair of optical fibers connected to the optical waveguide chip. The fibers are connected such that the optical axes of the chip and the fibers are aligned with each other. The separation type case has an optical-fiber lead-in portion and an optical-fiber lead-in groove. The optical-fiber lead-in portion has an optical-fiber open groove at open portion of the separation type case. The optical-fiber open groove leads the optical fiber out of the separation type case. The optical-fiber lead-in groove positions the optical fiber and is connected to the inner end of the open groove. The optical-fiber open groove is deeper than the optical-fiber lead-in groove.

    摘要: A novel structure has, on a substrate a nonlinear optical thin film having a high .chi..sup.(3) value provided wherein metal fine particles are uniformly dispersed in a ferroelectric or highly dielectric matrix and heat treated whereby the metal fine particles and matrix are improved in crystallinity. The excitation wavelength can be substantially changed by a choice of the heat treating conditions. The crystallinity of the metal fine particles and matrix and .chi..sup.(3) value are improved by selecting a proper substrate or changing the heat treating procedure and conditions. The thin film is further improved in nonlinear optical properties, typically .chi..sup.(3) and .chi..sup.(3) /.alpha. values by using a perovskite type compound ABO.sub.3 having a specific A/B ratio as the matrix material and controlling film deposition conditions for improving the crystallinity of the matrix.
