摘要: An optical disc on which information can be recorded by recording light has a first recording layer (102) and a second recording layer (103) disposed behind the first recording layer as viewed by the recording light; the first recording layer and the second recording layer have respective power adjustment areas (P1, P2) that are used to adjust the power of the recording light to the optimal recording power at the time of recording of information on each recording layer; a prewrite area (PW) is provided in correspondence to the power adjustment area (P2) used for optimal power adjustment in the second recording layer and restricted areas (A1, A2) on both sides of that power adjustment area (P2). The restricted areas (A1, A2) allow for the diameter of the recording light beam and for lamination misalignment. This configuration enables stable test recording to be carried out in a short time on an optical disc having multiple recording layers.

摘要: A thermostat independently controlling cooling water passages of two circuits, including a first valve body having first and second passages in constant communication. A third passage is selectively connected to those passages. Communication of the third passage is disconnected when the cooling water temperature is below a prescribed temperature, and the valve is opened when the cooling water temperature is equal to or higher than the prescribed temperature. A second valve body, having fourth and fifth passages selectively in communication, closes the valve to disconnect those passages when the cooling water temperature is below the prescribed temperature, and opens the valve by operating the first valve body to link the passages when the cooling water temperature is equal to or higher than the prescribed temperature. A tubular sleeve prevents first and second control chambers, respectively including the first and second valve bodies, from communicating with each other.

摘要: A light source (1) is composed of a single element having a light emitting point (2S) emitting a light (3S) and a light emitting point (2L) emitting a light (3L) at a longer wavelength than the light (3S), the light emitting point (2S) and the light emitting point (2L) being formed monolithically. In the direction parallel to the optical axis of a collimator lens (6), the light emitting point (2S) is placed closer, than the light emitting point (2L), to the collimator lens (6) and is placed on the side of the inclined plane (7a) of the beam shaping prism (7). The incidence angles of the light (3S) and the light (3L) to the inclined plane (7a) are set so that the incidence angle of the light (3S) is larger than that of the light (3L) and so that the lights (3S) and (3L) exit from the inclined plane (7a) at equal exit angles. The collimator lens (6), the beam shaping prism (7), etc. have refractive indexes which become larger as the wavelength of incident light becomes shorter. It is then possible to simplify the structure and reduce the unstableness of operation caused by a difference in light wavelength.

摘要: An optical recording and reproducing apparatus uses a laser to form one or more spots on an information recording medium preformatted with wobbling guide grooves, and detects tracking error. If the differential push-pull method of detecting tracking error is used, a center spot is flanked by satellite spots distant by an odd multiple of half the repeating period of the wobble. If the three-beam method is used, the distance is an odd multiple of one-fourth the repeating period of the wobble. If the push-pull method is used, a split photodetector generates a pair of electrical signals. The sum and difference of these signals are filtered, then synchronously detected, and the result is combined with the difference signal to generate a corrected tracking error signal.
