摘要: A system and method are disclosed for protecting a database against deduction of confidential attribute values therein. A memory 160 is provided for storing the database and a processor 155 is provided for processing the database. Using the processor, the database is electronically partitioning into public attributes, containing nonconfidential attribute values, and private attributes, containing private attribute values. The processor is then used to electronically process the private attribute values to reduce any high correlation between public attribute values and private attribute values. Specifically, the processor can partition the database into safe tuples and unsafe tuples, which unsafe tuples have highly correlative public attribute values. The processor can then selectively combine the public attribute values of the tuples to camouflage such tuples from deduction of their private attribute values beyond a threshold level of uncertainty or remove such tuples from the database.

摘要: A method and system for managing telephone calls includes a personal telephone manager (PTM) (12) and uses out-of-band, wireless, two-way signaling, messaging and alerting to screen, control, route and respond to incoming telephone calls and to communicate called party text messages in auditory form to the caller. Through use of an out-of-band signaling/messaging path (16), the PTM (12) frees the called party from the need to maintain telephone network connectivity, from having to inform others of his/her current location, and from having to subscribe to and use cellular telephone service. Instead, the called party can rely on the availability of existing low bandwidth, wide area, two-way wireless data services, which make efficient and cost effective use of available radio spectrum. Two-way wireless data messaging to a portable computer (18) equipped with radio transceivers is also provided. This feature enables the system to provide a set of real-time options including: call screening by the called party based on information identifying the caller's telephone number; call redirection to a wire-line or wireless telephone number as specified by the called party; call redirection to a third party or to a voice mail system; or the return of a text message specified by the called party and delivered to the caller in an auditory form.

摘要: A real time fault tolerant transaction processing system, particularly one suited for use in a service control point (SCP), is described. Specifically, the system utilizes a communication protocol, such as signalling system 7, that adaptively distributes message packets on an equal basis over multiple physical links that connect two points, such as an SCP and a signalling transfer point (STP), and non-fault tolerant front end and back end processors that are connected to each physical link for processing packets appearing on that link and providing corresponding responses thereto. All the front and back end processors are loosely coupled together for purposes of processor synchronization and re-assignment. Through this system, all the physical links simultaneously carry an equal number of packets which are, in turn, processed by all the processors connected thereto. In the event any physical link or either a front or back end processor connected thereto fails, then that link is declared to be out of service. Consequently, the protocol merely re-assigns all subsequently occurring packets to the other links until such time as the fault is cleared. As the result of link re-assignment, there is advantageously no need to connect a fault tolerant processor to each physical link. This, in turn, substantially and advantageously reduces the complexity and cost of the fault tolerant transaction processing system.
