摘要： A system and method utilizing random sampling for partition analysis on very large databases. The method utilizes a random sampling algorithm that provides results accurate to within a few percentage points for large homogeneous databases. The accuracy is not affected by the size of the database and is determined primarily by the size of the sample. The system and method for approximate partition analysis reduces the time required for an analysis to a fraction of the time required for an exact analysis. The reduction in time thereby permits more frequent and timely analyses of database partition sizes.

摘要： Various forms of apparatus (1) for preparing and dispensing beverages, preferably based on coffee, can receive instructions from a customer and deliver the beverage automatically. The apparatus is preferably capable of fully automatic cleaning in a cleaning cycle in which a cleaning agent is flushed through the lines (62, 64), and the apparatus is preferably arranged to ensure that not only are the lines cleaned properly but that no cleaning agent can be dispensed. The apparatus includes a brewer assembly (78) having a chamber (81) in which freshly ground coffee can be introduced and either espresso or filter coffee can be automatically prepared by passing hot water through the chamber and removing the spent coffee grounds. The coffee may be stored as coffee beans in sealed containers (208) that can automatically be pierced to release the beans which are ground immediately before preparation of the beverage. The apparatus also includes a cup-size detector (921) for ensuring that the customer offers a cup to the apparatus that is of a size appropriate to the beverage selected.

摘要： A preload system for bearings in a waterjet propulsion apparatus, the apparatus including a water intake section and a pumping unit including a bearing cartridge. The bearing cartridge is designed such that during operation a preload system provides tailoring between radial and axial thermal growths of a plurality of bearing components that comprise the bearing cartridge and such that an initial ambient temperature preload condition can be maintained or reduced during normal water mode operation conditions. The preload system includes a plurality of spacers that when positioned relative to the bearing components of the bearing cartridge prevent relative motion between the bearing components during land mode operation and maintain or reduce the initial ambient room temperature preload condition during normal water mode operation.
