    摘要: A test stand has a base supporting standards on which are mounted a crossbar and an adjustably locatable header. The header supports an actuator for raising and lowering the crossbar which holds V-blocks for engaging the handles of an impact or impact-rotary tool and which applies downward pressure to the tool. The tool chuck is fitted to the top of a guide rod whose lower end passes with a sliding fit through a disc to which it is keyed and bears against a piston in an hydraulically pressurized cylinder. Sensors detect rotation of the disc and movement of the piston to provide information to a computer as to impact energy and rotary speed. A manifold fitted with sensors for temperature, pressure, and flow rate supplies operating air to the tool. The computer includes a database with stored information as to past history of the tool and the manufacturer's recommended operating specifications to which the measured data is compared.

    摘要: An orienting and circulating sub is disclosed for connection in an apparatus for angular drilling in the earth. The drilling apparatus comprises a drill string extending into a substantially vertical well bore in the earth supporting a fluid operated motor and drill bit at its lower end. The drill bit is supported for angular drilling by either using a bent sub for supporting the drilling motor or be using a drilling motor with a bent housing. A surveying tool is connected above the motor for determining and controlling the direction of drilling. A mule shoe keying sub is connected to the surveying tool for orienting the position of the motor in relation to said surveying tool. The orienting sub comprises a tubular housing formed in two sections threaded together with one end connected to the surveying tool by the mule shoe keying sub and the other end connected to the bent sub or to the bent motor housing. The orienting sub has a sleeve mounted in the end of the lower housing section with a key for receiving the mule shoe for locating the sub in relation to the surveying tool. The sleeve is oriented in the housing by a system of fine grooves and splines on the sub section and on the sleeve which permit fine angular adjustment. A modified Baker float valve is positioned in the lower end of the tool with a flapper check valve. A piston valve with shear pin is provided to open a bypass valve for draining the drill string during lifting.

    摘要: A conveyor 4 driven by a motor 5 feeds thermoplastic waste material 2, such as the trimmed-off edges of extruded plastics sheets, to a compression chamber 8 at the inlet of a heating box 10 of an extruder 11. The conveyor operates intermittently in synchronism with the movement of a plunger 40 operated by a hydraulic cylinder 42 which compresses the waste material to the level of a restraining member 50 controlled by a pneumatic cylinder 54. The member 50 comes into operation as the plunger 40 reaches the bottom of its stroke and holds the plastics material in a compressed condition while the plunger 40 rises again, further material 2 is fed to the chamber 8 and the cycle is repeated, the member 50 being withdrawn shortly before the plunger 40 reaches the bottom of its stroke. Plastics material is progressively melted as it passes down the box 10 and under the pressure exerted by the compressed material is extruded through a die plate 16 in the form of strands 18 which, after passing through a water bath 20, are chopped into granules 35 by a rotary cutter 34 and fall into a bin 36 ready for re-use.

The flexible sub comprises an elongated housing having a plurality of housing sections connectable at one end to an orientation sub for a PDM drill and connectable at the other end to a wire line connector. An electronics assembly including guidance directional guided sensors, directional probe and logging while drilling probe is positioned in a plurality of the housing sections, interconnected electrically, and connected at one end to the wire line connector. An articulated sinker bar and an articulated housing section spaced along the length of the housing and operable to bend in preference to bending of the housing sections containing the electronics assemblies. The steering sub is operable during drilling to bend along its length at the said articulated sinker bar and said articulated housing section on a short radius without bending the electronics assembly.

The accessory functions to prevent displacement of the cask valve (V) inwardly of the container in use and the leg portions (2,3) engage the edge of a supporting surface to prevent movement of the cask with respect to the supporting surface.

    摘要: Long utility holes, for gas lines, electrical conduit, communications conduit and the like, may be bored or pierced horizontally through the earth, particularly under obstacles, such as buildings, streets, highways, rivers, lakes, etc. Such holes may be bored by an underground drilling mole (underground percussion drill) supported on a hollow drill rod and supplied with compressed air through the rod to operate an air hammer which strikes an anvil having an external boring face, preferably constructed to apply an asymmetric boring force. The drill rod is operated by a drill rig on the surface or recessed in special pit for horizontal drilling and provides for addition of sections of pipe or hollow rod as the boring progresses. The asymmetric boring force causes the boring path to curve and, when straight line drilling is needed, the drill rod is rotated to counteract the asymmetric boring force. An alternative boring tool utilizes an expander supported on a solid or hollow drill rod and having a base end supported on and larger in diameter than the rod and tapering longitudinally forward therefrom. It may have a uniform extension protruding a short distance forward. The tool penetrates the earth upon longitudinal movement of the drill rod.

    摘要: An insulated point gap assembly for a toroidal coupled telemetry system wherein a drill collar (38), operable to be connected to a lower portion of a drill string (32), carries a toroidal core having primary windings (88) and secondary windings (130). An aperture (154) is laterally fashioned through the drill collar. A conductor (150) is connected to one end of the secondary and extends through the aperture and the other end of the secondary is connected to the drill collar. The conductor is surrounded by an electrical insulation member (152). In a preferred embodiment, an axially extending sleeve of insulating material (156) is applied about the drill collar at the location of the conductor (150) to further isolate the conductor 15 from the drill collar.
