    摘要: An apparatus for inverting the spatial orientation of sheet material from a desired input to a desired output orientation. The apparatus includes a cage assembly, a torque drive mechanism operative to rotate the cage assembly about a rotational axis and a sheet conveyance mechanism mounting to the cage assembly for conveying sheet material along the rotational axis of the cage assembly. The torque drive mechanism is adapted to assume input and output positions about the rotational axis wherein each position corresponds to the desired input and output orientations of the sheet material. The sheet conveyance mechanism is, further, adapted to: (i) receive sheet material when the cage assembly is in the input position, (ii) eject sheet material when the cage assembly is in the output position and (iii) retard the movement of the sheet material in response to rotation of the cage assembly by the torque drive mechanism.

    摘要: The present disclosure provides an improved system and method that reduces fulgurites and their effects in a fuse. The fuse element can be at least partially coated with a high temperature elastomeric compound, such as a silicone, that can substantially withstand the heat of the current sufficient to “blow” the fuse and associated arcing, if any, and not allow the local melting of the sand to form the fulgurite. Thus, the elastomeric compound shields the sand from the arcing. The arcing can be suppressed faster by not allowing fulgurites to form near the arc to provide a channel for the arc. The arc can be suppressed quicker with less heat without the channel. In general, if a fulgurite is formed, it is formed near the beginning of the elastomeric coating that is distal from another part of the exposed fuse such that arcing, if any, is reduced.

    摘要: An inserter input system including a web feeder providing a web of printed material to be split by a web slitting knife along the web's direction of travel. The split web is then cut transverse to the direction of travel by a rotary cutter operating at a first velocity, resulting in side-by-side individual sheets. Downstream of the rotary cutter, a right angle turn mechanism receives each of the side-by-side sheets and reorients them by ninety degrees. Further the right angle turn reorients the sheets into a serial shingled arrangement. A high speed separation nip pulls individual shingled sheets out from the shingled arrangement. The speed of the separation nip is such that a predetermined gap between the previously shingled sheets is formed. In a further preferred embodiment of the present invention, the speed of the rotary cutter and right angle turn mechanism are controlled to adjust a quantity of sheets that would be generated from displacement traveled due to inertia during a deceleration of the system to a stop.

    摘要: Apparatus for receiving sheets fed in a first direction and guiding and controlling the sheets through a right angle turn includes at least one right angle turn over module which includes a lower plate with an input belt assembly for receiving the first documents conveyed thereto in a first direction; an upper plate including a 45.degree. turn over section cantilevered above the lower plate, and a turning guide positioned adjacent to the turn over section. The upper plate includes a plurality of output rollers rotatably mounted in the top of the upper plate and oriented for moving sheets at a right angle direction to the first direction. The turning guide includes an upwardly curved edge that extends a fixed distance from the turn over section for guiding sheets around the turn over section. An output belt assembly is suspended above the upper plate for conveying sheets in a second direction that is orthogonal to the first direction. The output belt assembly includes an endless belt moving around at least two rollers and further including structure for applying a normal force to the lower reach of the belt directly above each of the output rollers in the upper plate whereby the upper belt and the output rollers cooperate to convey the sheets out of the turn over section of the upper plate. The output belt assembly cooperates with the output rollers for conveying sheets received from a sheet feeding source that is in line with the output belt assembly.

    摘要: In accordance with the present invention apparatus for inserting enclosures into an envelope comprises an insertion section and an envelope staging section located upstream and below the insertion section. The envelope staging section includes structure for holding and forwarding an envelope fed from an envelope feeder. Envelope transport structure transports an envelope forwarded from the envelope staging section to the insertion section. The envelope transport structure includes a vacuum deck located at the insertion section and a vacuum drum located between the envelope staging section and the vacuum deck. The envelope transport structure further includes a plurality of envelope transport belts operating in cooperation with the vacuum drum and the vacuum deck. A plurality of backstops are located at the downstream end of the insertion section. A pivoting sucker bar assembly lifts open a top panel of the envelope when the envelope is against the backstops. A pair of rotating funnel guide horns guide enclosures being conveyed for insertion into the envelope. A dual belted enclosure transport assembly located upstream of the insertion section transports a collation toward the insertion section. A plurality of overhead pushers seize the enclosures from the enclosure transport, stuff the enclosures into the opened envelope and push the stuffed envelope from the insertion section into engagement by output belts that are located downstream from the insertion section and above the envelope transport belts.

The vacuum drum includes a plurality of non-rotating sections having stationary vacuum ports at the peripheral section and further includes a plurality of pulleys, each of which support an upper reach of an endless belt at the peripheral section of the vacuum drum between the first and second structure. The system further comprises a plenum shaft to which the non-rotating section of the vacuum drum is fixedly secured and the pulleys are rotatably secured. The plenum shaft is connected to a vacuum source and the stationary vacuum ports are connected to holes in the plenum shaft. The plenum shaft includes a valve assembly for valving the vacuum on and off.
