Abstract: A first device includes an outrush circuit including a resistor electrically disposed in series with first and second terminals of the first device and a switch electrically disposed in parallel with the resistor. The switch is controlled by an external signal received by the first device from a second device when the first device is communicably connected to the second device and the second device is electrically connected to the first and second terminals. When the first device receives the external signal, the switch is switched on after a startup time from receiving the external signal, such that electric current from a power source substantially passes through the switch. When the first device does not receive the external signal, the switch is switched off, such that electric current from the power source substantially passes through the resistor. The resistor limits electric current to the second device.

Abstract: There is provided a method of controlling a powered air purifying respirator blower system to deliver a substantially uniform volumetric airflow to a user, the system comprising a fan powered by a variable speed electric motor, the motor is controlled by an electronic control unit for delivering a forced flow of air through at least one filter to a user, comprising the steps of: (a) monitoring system loading; and (b) decreasing a speed of the electric motor when system loading reaches a predetermined value. There is also provided an air purifying respirator blower system using such a method.

Abstract: An article of personal protective equipment (PPE) includes a battery, a charging circuit, and a controller. The battery is configured to power one or more components of the article of PPE. The charging circuit is configured to receive electrical power from a power supply and supply an electric current to the battery. The controller is configured to determine a plurality of thresholds of one or more electrical parameters of the battery. The plurality of thresholds has progressively increasing values. The controller is further configured to determine the one or more electrical parameters of the battery and control the charging circuit to progressively decrease a magnitude of the electric current supplied to the battery when the one or more electrical parameters progressively increase above each threshold from the plurality of thresholds.

Abstract: A blower/filtration unit for a powered air purifying respirator (PAPR) is presented that includes a motor configured to operate in a standard mode and in a high magnetic field (HMF) mode. The unit also includes a magnetic field sensor. The unit also includes a controller comprising a control mode switching function. The controller executes the control function upon detection of a magnetic field strength that exceeds a reference threshold magnetic field strength. The control function switches the motor operation from the standard mode to the HMF mode.

Abstract: A blower/filtration unit for a powered air purifying respirator (PAPR) includes a motor configured to operate according to a motor control algorithm. The blower/filtration unit also includes a first pressure sensor positioned at an inlet of the blower/filtration unit. The blower/filtration unit also includes a second pressure sensor positioned at an outlet of the blower/filtration unit. The blower/filtration unit also includes a motor controller that executes the motor control algorithm. The motor control algorithm determines a motor speed required to maintain an airflow rate based on signals from the first and second pressure sensors.

The breathing apparatus further includes an adaptor including an adaptor housing physically connected to the blower unit and the battery pack.
