Abstract: A ballast water treatment apparatus and a ballast water treatment system having a ballast water treatment apparatus are provided. The ballast water treatment apparatus includes a ballast water transport line configured to transport ballast water between a first location and a second location, the transported ballast water being passed through at least one injector, and a plasma generation device configured to be fed with a feed gas optionally comprising oxygen, and configured to generate a feed gas plasma by a streamer type discharge in a discharge area to provide a treated gas at a treated-gas outlet. The injector includes a liquid passage having an area constructed such as to increase a velocity of the passed-through water in a region of increased velocity, and an injector gas inlet provided in the region of increased velocity. The treated-gas outlet is in gaseous connection with the injector gas inlet.

Abstract: A pulse generator and a method for generating pulses are provided. The pulse generator includes at least one first transmission line with a first and a second end; at least one second transmission line with a first and a second end; a voltage source; a switching unit; and a charge control device. The charge control device is adapted to connect an output of the voltage source to the first end of the at least one first transmission line. A first switch S1 in the switching unit is adapted to connect or disconnect the second end of the at least one first transmission line to the first end of the at least one second transmission line for predetermined time spans. A second switch S2 in the switching unit is adapted to connect or disconnect the first end of the at least one second transmission line to a fixed potential. The opening or closing states of S1 and S2 in the switching unit are mutually exclusive. A second end of the at least one second transmission line is adapted to be connected to a load. The switching unit is further adapted to operate the first switch, S1, and the second switch, S2, in a predetermined order to alter a pre-charging state of the first transmission line.

Abstract: A ballast water treatment apparatus including a ballast water transport line configured to transport a ballast water main stream, a plasma generation device configured to generate an activated gas from a feed gas; and a mixing device. The plasma generation device includes a feed gas inlet for a feed gas, a first electrode and a second electrode, for activating the feed gas by an electric discharge between the first electrode and the second electrode thereby generating the activated gas, a cooling fluid passage for cooling the plasma generation device, the cooling fluid passage having a cooling fluid inlet and a cooling fluid outlet, the cooling fluid passage being fed with a cooling fluid, and a combining section being configured to combine the activated gas with the cooling fluid from the cooling fluid outlet to generate an activated fluid product. The mixing device is configured to mix the activated fluid product and the ballast water main stream.

Abstract: A gas-insulated low- or medium-voltage load break switch includes: a housing defining a housing volume for holding an insulation gas at an ambient pressure; a first arcing contact and a second arcing contact arranged within the housing volume, the first and second arcing contacts being movable in relation to each other along an axis of the load break switch and defining a quenching region in which an arc is formed during a current breaking operation; a pressurizing system having a pressurizing chamber arranged within the housing volume for pressurizing a quenching gas from an ambient pressure p0 to a quenching pressure pquench during the current breaking operation; and a nozzle system arranged within the housing volume for blowing the pressurized quenching gas in a subsonic flow pattern from the pressurization chamber onto the arc formed in the quenching region during the current breaking operation. The nozzle system includes at least one nozzle arranged for blowing the quenching gas from an off-axis position predominantly radially inwardly onto the quenching region.

Abstract: A load-break switch has a housing holding insulation gas at ambient pressure; a first main contact and a second main contact being movable relative to each other in an axial direction of the switch; a first arcing contact and a second arcing contact being movable relative to each other in the axial direction and defining an arcing region where an arc is formed during a current breaking operation, wherein the arcing region is located radially inward from the first main contact; a pressurizing system pressurizing a quenching gas during the current breaking operation; and a nozzle system arranged to blow the pressurized quenching gas onto the arc. The first main contact includes at least one pressure release opening to allow gas flow in a radial outward direction. A total area of the pressure release opening suppresses a reduction of gas flow out of the pressure release opening.
