Abstract:
A method for reducing power consumption by a wireless communication device is disclosed. The method can include the wireless communication device determining that the device is experiencing an uplink power limited condition. In an instance in which the connection to the serving network was established only for a signaling purpose, the method can further include the wireless communication device sending a measurement report including an actual measured downlink signal quality value for the serving network in response to the uplink power limited condition. However, if the connection to the serving network was not established only for a signaling purpose, the method can include the wireless communication device sending a measurement report including a modified downlink signal quality value for the serving network to trigger a handover in response to the uplink power limited condition.
Abstract:
A method for reducing power consumption in connected mode discontinuous reception is disclosed. The method can include a wireless communication device sending a transmission for a pending HARQ retransmission process and receiving an ACK for the transmission. The method can further include the wireless communication device determining a subset of remaining uplink transmission opportunities in the pending HARQ retransmission process to monitor for an uplink grant in response to receiving the ACK and monitoring the subset of remaining uplink transmission opportunities for an uplink grant. The method can additionally include the wireless communication device entering a sleep state for any uplink transmission opportunities remaining in the pending HARQ retransmission process after monitoring the subset of remaining uplink transmission opportunities in an instance in which an uplink grant for the pending HARQ retransmission process is not received for any of the subset of remaining uplink transmission opportunities.
Abstract:
Methods and apparatus for resolving incomplete message content in networks. Various embodiments of the present disclosure are directed to correction and recovery of incomplete measurement report configuration messages within a Long Term Evolution (LTE) network. Specifically, within certain LTE networks, existing messaging may be incomplete in regards to various nearby ancillary networks, but still sufficient with regards to measurement requirements of the LTE network itself. Since the mobile device can continue operation within the LTE network, the mobile device can safely ignore or correct the measurement report configuration message.
Abstract:
A method for reducing call drops in uplink power limited scenarios is disclosed. The method can include a wireless communication device determining that the wireless communication device is experiencing an uplink power limited condition in which a transmission power of the wireless communication device is limited to a level below a power class level of the wireless communication device. The method can further include defining a downlink power threshold for sending a measurement report for triggering a handover based on the uplink power limited condition. The downlink power threshold can be higher than a threshold configured by a serving base station. The method can additionally include determining based on measured downlink power that the calculated downlink power threshold is satisfied and sending a measurement report for triggering a handover to the serving base station in response to the downlink power threshold being satisfied.
Abstract:
Methods and apparatus for power optimization in e.g., a wireless mobile device. In one embodiment, the optimization is effected via intelligent idle mode current drain management. In an exemplary LTE cellular network context, the user equipment (UE) only powers on its transceiver for a subset of Discontinuous Reception (DRX) cycles based on e.g., the quality of the radio environment, power considerations, location, etc. For example, if a UE has not moved, and its radio reception quality is good, the UE is likely to successfully receive a paging notification (i.e., without multiple attempts). Consequently, the UE configures itself to receive only a single paging indication.
Abstract:
A method and apparatus for fast cell selection by a mobile wireless device. The mobile wireless device detects when a first wireless cell fails a set of stored suitability criteria and searches for and locates a set of candidate wireless cells to associate with. The mobile wireless device measures at least one received signal metric for each candidate wireless cell in the set of candidate wireless cells. When a candidate cell in the set of candidate wireless cells is identically the first wireless cell, the mobile wireless device evaluates the suitability of the candidate wireless cell using the stored set of suitability criteria for the first wireless cell and the measured at least one received signal metric for the candidate wireless cell. The mobile wireless communication device associates with the candidate wireless cell when the candidate wireless cell meets the stored set of suitability criteria.
Abstract:
A method and apparatus for expanded cell search and selection in a mobile wireless device. The mobile device locates cells in a first of neighbor cells and in a second list of stored cells and evaluates located cells using suitability criteria. When locating a suitable first cell that uses a first radio access technology (RAT) in the first list, the first cell is selected. When locating a second suitable cell that uses a second RAT in the first list and not locating a suitable cell that uses the first RAT in the second list, the second cell is selected. When locating a third suitable cell that uses the second RAT in the first list and locating a fourth suitable cell that uses the first RAT in the second list, the fourth cell is selected when more suitable than the third cell.

Abstract:
A voice over Long Term Evolution (VoLTE) capable mobile device is configured to deregister from an Internet Protocol (IP) Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) network element for voice connections and use a dual network mode of operation that includes data connections via a 4G LTE/LTE-A network and voice connections via a legacy 3G or 2G network based on performance metrics a serving cell of the 4G LTE/LTE-A network. When the performance metrics indicate that voice connections may be unstable, such as when a reference signal received power (RSRP) falls below a threshold level but remains above a reselection/handover threshold level, the mobile device deregisters from the IMS network element to disable VoLTE connections from being established. The mobile device establishes the requested voice connection via a legacy 3G or 2G network instead, while established or new data connections for the mobile device continue to use the 4G LTE/LTE-A network.
Abstract:
A wireless communication system and method are presented for reducing retransmission delays between a UE and an eNB. The UE is configured to establish a communication link to the eNB according to an interface protocol comprising at least a MAC layer and a RLC layer. The RLC layer is notified with at least a PDU data based on input from the MAC layer if no HARQ ACK is received when a maximum retransmission number is reached. A sequence number (SN) of the PDU may then be retransmitted from the RLC layer to the eNB.
