    摘要: An apparatus is provided for assisting breast biopsy. The apparatus includes a biopsy guide, a support system that effects three-dimensional movement of the biopsy guide and a system for registering coordinates of a remote center of motion (RCM) of the biopsy guide with a coordinate system on an image of a breast obtained from a parallel plate radiology imager. The biopsy guide has a mounting plate and a needle gun mount and ultrasound transducer mount on the mounting plate in a common plane. A biopsy needle of a needle gun mounted on the needle gun mount and an image plane of an ultrasound transducer mounted on the ultrasound transducer mount have longitudinal axes in or parallel to the common plane, which intersect at the RCM. The position of the RCM with respect to the biopsy guide is unchanged when the needle gun and/or ultrasound transducer moves on the biopsy guide.

    摘要: A method and apparatus is disclosed, employed in combination with an ultrasonographic system, for assisting in guiding and placing at least one medical instrument into a target tissue during a minimally invasive medical procedure. The apparatus comprises: a reference means; a processing means in communication with the ultrasonographic system; and a mounting means for mounting the reference means in a predetermined relationship to an ultrasonographic transducer. The reference means includes a plurality of apertures arranged in an predefined manner which are sized to permit at least one medical instrument to pass therethrough. The processing means determines the spatial relationship between the target tissue and the reference means and further merges a representation of the plurality of apertures with the ultrasonographic image to form a positioning image. The positioning image assists in the guiding and placement of the at least one medical instrument into a target location by identifying a path to the target location via a selected aperture. Preferably, each aperture is provided with an internal adjustment means to permit minor adjustment to the selected path.

In another aspect, a region of interest in the target volume is determined. A segment of an operational scan range of a transducer of the ultrasound imaging system encompassing the region of interest is determined.     摘要: There is described a three-dimensional imaging system for acquiring a succession of two-dimensional images of a target volume represented by an array of pixels and transforming the succession of two-dimensional images directly into a three dimensional image. Generally, the system comprises a scanner, a memory and a transformation means. The scanner scans the target volume using an angular scanning technique, and generates a succession of digitized two-dimensional images thereof representing cross-sections of the target volume on a plurality of planes spaced around an axis of rotation of the scanner. The memory stores the succession of digitized two-dimensional images and a data set. The data set comprises: (i) calibration parameters defining the geometric relationship between successive digitized two-dimensional images; and (ii) acquisition parameters defining the geometric and orientational relationship between successive digitized two-dimensional images. The transformation means receives the digitized two-dimensional images and the data set, and transforms the digitized two-dimensional images directly into a three-dimensional image of at least a portion of the target volume. The system is particularly suited to display a three-dimensional image from two-dimensional images which are acquired by a fan- or axially-acquired ultrasound image data.
