Abstract:
A foot pedal with a treadle that pivots up and down to vary its pitch, and/or side to side to vary its yaw. The pivot range of motion is divided into a plurality of zones, each zone configured to correspond to a respective virtual switch. When the treadle is pivoted into one of the zones, the corresponding virtual switch is activated. The virtual switch controls an operatively coupled device such as a handpiece used in a surgical procedure.
Abstract:
An ocular surgical apparatus is provided, including a processor configured to receive ocular surgical data and a graphical user interface configured to display the ocular surgical data to a user. The processor configured to filter the ocular surgical data and the graphical user interface configured to display filtered ocular surgical data. The processor is configured to receive a number of ocular surgical data samples, discard selected ocular surgical data samples thereby yielding a number of emphasized samples, and perform an operation on the number of emphasized samples to produce filtered ocular surgical data.

Abstract:
A system, method and apparatus for notifying a surgeon of an occlusion in an ocular surgical apparatus are disclosed herein. Through operation of a handpiece of the surgical apparatus, the handpiece may become blocked or occluded. An occlusion detector is configured to sense the occlusion in the handpiece, and an occlusion signal is generated. A control module is provided to send an occlusion warning signal to a foot pedal of the surgical apparatus, where a tactile notification is provided to a user of the apparatus that an occlusion has occurred.
Abstract:
A medical system is provided having a system host and a control device connected to the system host. The medical system further includes a handpiece having a sleeve with a port opening configured to enable fluid to pass there through, a fluid channel connected to the port opening, and a fluid flow restrictor configured to restrict fluid flow of the fluid channel through the port opening. The control unit is configured to receive input from a user and control an amount of fluid provided by the fluid flow restrictor based on the input received from the user. In one aspect, the medical system is a phacoemulsification system, the handpiece a phacoemulsification handpiece, and the control device a footpedal.
Abstract:
A system apparatus and method for determining fluid depletion in a surgical system. A surgical system may include a surgical console, display, a processor operatively coupled to the surgical console, and a surgical cassette in fluid communication with an irrigation source and an aspiration line. Certain techniques involve the processor determining a volume of fluid in the irrigation source. The processor may be configured to receive sensed measurements regarding a rate of fluid flow over time from the irrigation source, process the rate of fluid flow relative to the determined volume and produce a first signal for the display to indicate a remaining capacity of the volume of fluid. Warnings and/or alarms may be triggered if fluid volume falls below a predetermined threshold.
