A method of producing a planographic printing plate support in which after aluminum is continuously cast directly from molten aluminum into a thin aluminum plate, the aluminum thin plate is subjected to cold rolling, heat treatment and flattening to obtain an aluminum support. The aluminum support is then subjected to surface toughening. The components of the aluminum support areFe: 0.4%-0.2%,Si: 0.20%-0.05%,Cu: not larger than 0.02%, and the Al purity is not smaller than 99.5%. After continuous casting, Fe in a range of from 20% to 90% of the Fe total content exists in a grain boundary and the rest of Fe exists as a solid solution in grains. In this case, it is preferable that in a section perpendicular to the direction of continuous casting, the grain size is in a range of from 2 .mu.m to 500 .mu.m.

A method of splicing together metal webs for use in planography with the ends thereof being butted or lapped against each other. In the metal web splicing method, the ends of the metal webs are spliced together in a butted manner, the splice portion thereof is welded, and the welded splice portion is rolled. According to the splicing method, there is left no level difference in the welded splice portion, which eliminates the possibility of the spliced metal webs being broken during the movement thereof and also has no ill effect on the coating process for the spliced metal webs.

A process for producing a support for a lithographic printing plate is disclosed, comprising mechanically graining a sheet for the support with abrasive grains which have sharp-angled tips having a radius of not more than 20 .mu.m. The process is suitable for mass production, and the lithographic printing plate produced from the resulting support is excellent in stain-resistance and printing durability.

Disclosed is a support for planographic printing plate prepared by a process which comprises subjecting molten aluminum alloy to continuous casting by a twin-roll continuous casting machine to directly caste a plate, subjecting the plate to cold rolling and heat treatment once or more times, respectively, reforming the plate, and then surface graining the plate, wherein crystalline grains on a cross section of the finished plate (a) have an average diameter in circle equivalence of 15 .mu.m to 35 .mu.m, (b) contain those having an average diameter in circle equivalence of not less than 40 .mu.m in a proportion of not more than 30% and (c) assume a shape factor of not less than 4.0.

A method of preparing a support for a lithographic printing plate is described, which comprises roughening the support surface by laser irradiation performed under the condition that the support is placed in a liquid or in a gaseous atmosphere, thereby achieving improved stain resistance upon printing and excellent printing press life.
摘要:
A process for producing a support for a lithographic printing plate is described, which comprises jetting a high-pressure liquid from at least one nozzle at a high rate, joining the jetted stream with a slurry containing a fine abrasive powder having a specific gravity of not less than 2.5 and having a sharp-angled tip having a radius of not more than 20 .mu.m, said slurry being spouted from at least one spout, directing the resulting mixed stream to strike against a surface of a metal sheet to carry out first graining, and modifying the first roughness thus formed on the metal sheet by brush graining to form a second roughness. Lithographic printing plates produced by using the resulting support are free from stain formation during printing and exhibit satisfactory printing durability.

摘要:
An apparatus for anodizing a support for a lithographic printing plate which comprises a backing roller which guides a web made of aluminum or an alloy thereof in a state of contacting the backing roller, (an) electrode(s) which is/are arranged along the peripheral surface of the backing roller in a concentric arc, an electric supplier which is provided at least on the upstream side or the downstream side of the backing roller, and an electrolyte solution which fills the clearance between the backing roller and the electrode, and an anodizing method using the same. By using the apparatus, the electric voltage loss can be reduced in electrolyte solution, and only a single surface of the supports is anodized without the necessity for providing any special means. Anodizing can be conducted at a high speed and the thickness of anodized layer easily increased. Moreover, thin supports can be anodized without fusion troubles.
