    摘要： A physical layer which depends on hardware of a general-purpose interface determines whether an image supply device supports a predetermined communication protocol. A transport layer which controls communication as an upper layer of the physical layer determines whether the image supply device supports the predetermined communication protocol. When either of the physical and transport layers determines that the image supply device supports the predetermined communication protocol, the image supply device is decided to support the predetermined communication protocol. When both of the physical and transport layers do not determine that the image supply device supports the predetermined communication protocol, an application layer serving as an upper layer of the transport layer determines whether the image supply device supports the predetermined communication protocol.

    摘要： Improved techniques for measuring misalignment between multiple print heads, or between forward and reverse printing for the same print head. Adverse effects of ink bleeding, paper cockling and other ink ejection effects are reduced by superimposingly printed alignment patterns in which less than all pixels of printed portions of the patterns are filled in. Carriage ringing and overshoot effects are reduced by printing the alignment patterns in multiple passes, and preferably with an offset in carriage starting location for each pass. Improved detection of darkest density regions of the superimposingly printed alignment pattern is obtained through detections based on differences between densities rather than absolute values of measured densities.

    摘要： In a recording apparatus for recording on a recording medium by a plurality of recording heads, a scan unit has a carriage capable of mounting the recording heads at a predetermined interval and causes the recording heads to scan corresponding divided recording areas. A record control unit causes the recording heads to conduct a first record mode to record an area of a first recording width in a direction of scan by shared recording by the recording heads of the corresponding recording areas and a second record mode to record an area of a second recording width smaller than the recording width of the first recording width by causing at least one of the recording heads to record in the corresponding divided recording area when the corresponding divided recording areas are scanned. A distance between two recording apparatus mounted at outermost positions in the arrangement of the recording heads on the carriage is not larger than a difference between the first recording width and the second recording width.
