    摘要: Various implementations include a melt-spun filament that has a radial cross section that has two substantially parallel linear perimetrical sections and first and second curved perimetrical sections. The first curved perimetrical section extends between first ends of the linear perimetrical sections, and the second curved perimetrical section extends between second ends of the linear perimetrical sections. The curved perimetrical sections are convex. According to some embodiments, the curved perimetrical sections are semi-circular or semi-elliptical. A plurality of melt-spun filaments may be included in a bundle of filaments and/or a yarn made with the melt-spun filaments. In addition, a spinneret plate for spinning the melt-spun filaments and a method of making the melt-spun filaments is also provided.

Inclusion of solid particles through a portion of the filaments allows for differing certain properties in products formed from the filaments while maintaining desirable physical properties such as strength or abrasion resistance. For example, including translucent or transparent particles, such as glass flakes or mica, may differ the visual properties, such as providing an increased luster. And, in other implementations, opaque solid particles may be included through a portion of the filaments to create a different property for a product formed with the filament.

    摘要: The production of bicomponent polymer fibers may be enhanced to provide greater bulk in bulk continuous filaments by creating differential stresses in the extruded combined melt and using those differential stresses to increase crimps, twists, and rotations thereby providing greater bulk. In one of many possible embodiments, these differential stresses may be formed by combining polymer compositions having different properties, or during the extrusion of the combined polymer melt from the spinneret, or by environmentally treating the melt spun bicomponent filament. The inventions disclosed and taught herein may be applied to the production of all types of bicomponent polymer fibers including, and without limitation, side-by-side and core and sheath extrusions.
