摘要: A communication system in which a multipart analog message (480) is generated by a controller (112) by including an analog part delimiter (440) between successive independent analog parts (420, 431, 432, 433). The multipart analog message (480) is positioned within a synchronous protocol, in which a digital code is included to identify the position of the multipart analog message (480). The synchronous protocol is transmitted by a radio transmitter (202) and received by a selective call receiver (122). The selective call receiver (122) digitally decodes the position of the multipart analog message (480) and begins recovery of the multipart analog message (480) at the position. The selective call receiver (122) recovers the part delimiters (440) and uses them to identify the independent analog parts (420, 431, 432, 433). One of the independent parts, which is a audible response, is selected by the user and used to generate a response.

摘要: A timer which can be used to provide interrupt signals at predetermined but variable periods for multi-tasking microcomputers or serial data acquisition in pagers comprises a plurality of modulo counters. Each modulo counter has selectable clock inputs and has an output coupled via switches to a NOR gate and to the other modulo counters. Programmable configuring means control the switching means to configure the counters so as to produce desired outputs at the logic gate. The configuring means can also reset the modulus of the modulo counters to any desired value. Thus, the timer produces variable interrupt signals with little or no overhead processor time.

摘要: A system and method is disclosed for wirelessly communicating displayable information for display on an auxiliary display device. A primary display device comprising a first display and a first wireless modem generates displayable information. The availability of one or more auxiliary display devices and information is collected to determine which of the auxiliary display devices are supported by the primary display device. The power state of the primary display device is monitored. If it is operating in a full power state, a full auxiliary display output mode is maintained allowing all, or a subset, of the displayable information generated by the first display device to be displayed on supported auxiliary display devices. If it is operating in a low or off power state, a subset auxiliary display output mode is activated and a predetermined subset of the displayable information is displayed on the supported auxiliary display devices.

摘要: An apparatus and method is disclosed for integrating an information processing system and a portable communication device. A first information processing system is coupled to a second information processing system through a connection such as a dock, cable, or wireless link. Once coupled, an interface connection manager is implemented to enable the second system to perform processing operations using the first system's network connections and peripherals and vice-versa. The interface connection manager then establishes a communications channel between the coupled systems to a third information processing system, typically through a physical or wireless network connection. The interface connection manager similarly enables the first system to perform authentication operations by accessing an authentication module implemented in the second system. When physically coupled, a power management module manages the respective power states of the two systems to provide power from the first system's power source to the second system.
