Abstract:
A sliding door is constructed with a rectangular metal framework of C-frame channel rail sections joined at their corners. A plurality of vertically spaced horizontal reinforcing struts join the frame side rails. The top rail of the door is slidingly hung from a track by hangers including hanger brackets. The bottom frame rail is held in position by a guide track. A thin siding panel and other structure is secured to the front flanges of the framework. Twisting of the top rail, caused by the forwardly offset weight of the front mounted structure including the siding panel, is prevented by braces connected between the top rail rear flange immediately adjacent the hanger brackets and the rear flange of the next lowermost horizontal strut. Wind-caused twisting of the bottom rail and resultant disengagement from its guide track is prevented by braces connected between the rear flanges of the bottom rail and the next uppermost horizontal strut.
Abstract:
A concealed stall door latch is installed in a sliding stall door. The sliding stall door includes a bar portion disposed on a top thereof. A handle channel is preferably disposed on one side of the bar portion. A single end channel terminates each end of the sliding stall door. The concealed sliding door latch is preferably slidably retained inside the handle channel and the end channel. The concealed sliding door latch includes a latch rod. A handle preferably extends through the handle channel from the latch rod. One end of the latch rod is biased to extend past a perimeter of the sliding stall door. A latch retainer is positioned adjacent the one end of the latch rod. The latch rod is retracted by the handle to allow the sliding door to be moved.
Abstract:
A method of providing precut trim pieces for a structural sliding door includes a vertical trim piece with one end that fits over a rail lip of a vertical rail, instead of under the rail lip. The rail lip terminates a trim extension of the vertical rail. Attaching the vertical trim piece over the rail lip enables the vertical trim piece to have horizontal adjustment relative to the trim extension. The manufacturer is able to supply precut lengths of horizontal and angled trim pieces, because the vertical trim piece may be horizontally adjusted to compensate for an out-of-square door.
Abstract:
A rigid wooden composite assembly such as a beam, post or the like, includes a plurality of elongated wooden boards of varying lengths disposed in face-to-face relationship and forming a plurality of layers. At least one of the layers includes a plurality of boards, the inner ends of which abut to form a joint therebetween. A connector device has a base plate with openings therein. Prongs extend outwardly from the plate and initially generally normal thereto. The prongs of adjacent openings extend in opposite directions from the plate. The connector device is disposed between the layers so that the base plate bridges the inner portion of the joint and the oppositely extending prongs penetrate the opposing board faces. When the assembly is compressed together, the prongs deform and clinchingly engage the wood surrounding the joint. The abutting boards are spliced together, and the facing boards are held tightly together.
