摘要： A privacy service is provided for use in protection of user data transferred in a network, including a converged network. The privacy service extracts and measures service elements of a message containing user data. The service elements include an identity element, a trust element, a rights element and a security element. The privacy service performs security by comparing service elements with a user defined privacy policy. The privacy policy may also be based on particular factors relating to the application, context, and time of the message. In another embodiment, the privacy service provides controls that indicate when user data is misappropriated as a result of an infringement of the user defined privacy policy. Further the privacy service provides a means to audit and trace deviations from the privacy policy for the purpose of repudiation, or future defense of security threats.

摘要： A communication system for providing wireless local loop services comprises an intelligent base station for communicating with one or more customer premises remote units (CPRUs), each of which connects to a non-wireless device. Each CPRU has a wireless transceiver for over-the-air communication with the intelligent base station. The intelligent base station connects, without the assistance of a base station controller, to a mobile switching center (MSC), through a GSM A-interface or a specialized derivative thereof, and thereby to a public switched telephone network (PSTN). The intelligent base station employs a subset of GSM functionality, enabling the CPRU to take advantage of various advanced telephony features. A transcoder and rate adapter unit may be added between the intelligent base station and the mobile switching center. The intelligent base station may be capable of communicating with both mobile users and fixed wireless local loop customers, using time division multiple access (TDMA) to communicate with multiple users. The intelligent base station may transmit and receive messages using spread spectrum encoding. If mobility is provided within the system, intelligent base stations within a cluster may be connected over physical links so that signalling and bearer channels supporting a call from a mobile user are tunneled through one intelligent base station to the other during handover.

To initiate a call, the wireless access communication unit transmits digits to the base station, which performs digit analysis and sets up the call. During an active call, the wireless access communication unit transmits digits (e.g., DTMF tones) to the network using DTAP start and stop messages. The DTMF tones can be regenerated at the network.

Upon each initial registration, each subscriber interface derives its own ciphering key from a stored user key and uses it thereafter for encryption and decryption.

Calls may be selectively routed by the central telephone switch over landlines, instead, to the wireless access communication unit, thereby bypassing landlines.
