Plant (10) for bending metallic flat elements (11) including a bending machine (13) provided with a support plane (21) on which the metallic flat element (11) to be bent is positioned, a bending group (19) which bends, upwardly or downwards, a section of the metallic flat element (11), and a sucker feeding group (22) associated with the support plane (21) for selectively feeding the metallic flat element (11) to the bending group (19). The feeding group includes one or more sucker organs (22) aligned in a direction substantially transverse to the metallic flat element (11) to be bent and placed, in the rest position, below the support plane (21), to lift the metallic flat element (11) of a given height (D) from the edge of the support plane (21), after the bending has been carried out.

Guide means interposed between a blade-holder (20) and the frame (12) of a bending press comprise a slide (40) slidable along an axis (Z) perpendicular to the plane of the metal sheet (P) to be bent. The blade-holder (20) is coupled to the slide (40) so as to be slidable along an axis inclined to a plane perpendicular to the plane of the sheet (P). First means (38) for bringing about movements of the blade-holder (20) along the axis perpendicular to the plane of the sheet (P) are interposed between the frame (12) and the blade-holder (20). Second means for bringing about movements of the slide (40) along the inclined axis are interposed between the slide (40) and the blade-holder (20) in order to produce movements of the blade-holder (20) towards and away from the blank-holder (16, 18), parallel to the plane of the sheet (P). These movements can be brought about in preselected combinations, preferably under the control of a numerical-control device.

The device comprises a transfer unit with a block (44) containing wells (48) in which suckers (50) are located. The wells (48) comprise a border (72) made of a sealing and friction material. The peripheral wall (60) of the sucker (50) is flexible enough to permit axial movement of the lip (62) between an expanded position in which the lip (62) projects above the border (72) of the well (48) and a contracted position in which the lip (62) is coplanar with this border. The internal space of the sucker (50) and the internal space (70) of the well (48) around the sucker are both connected to a vacuum source by respective narrow channels (64,68) whose cross sections are approximately the same as each other. The size of the cross sections of the narrow channels (64,68) is such that there is negligible loss of vacuum inside the sucker (50) when a work piece is placed against the lip (62) but not against the border (72) of the well (48).

A gripping assembly for a manipulator for plate sheets of the type which comprises a vise having two superimposed jaws disposed around a vertical axis, the jaws being capable of gripping a single plate along its thickness, the plate having borders, the jaws being also adapted to rotate around the axis whereby each border of the plate to be folded is brought in front of the press machine. The assembly has a pair of clamps (5) disposed laterally with respect to the vise. The clamps grip firmly the plate along its thickness and permit the simultaneous displacement from jaws in the area corresponding to the vise towards the folding machine.

The movable blank-holder (16) of a bending press comprises a series of sections (26, 28) and a pair of motor-driven carriages (42) each of which has an entraining member (44) which can selectively engage and release the sections (26, 28) in order to move them for re-arrangement purposes. Each of two sections (28) situated at opposite ends of the series comprises a shoe-holder body (48) which supports a respective shoe (50) by means of inclined guides. Each shoe-holder (48) carries a respective slide (56) having a driving portion (60) and each shoe (50) has a driven portion (64). These driving and driven portions have formations (62, 64) cooperating with one another directly with a shaped coupling with a single degree of freedom, arranged in a manner such that movements of the slide (56) are converted into oblique movements of the respective shoe (50) for releasing it from and engaging it with a lateral channel-shaped bend which has already been made in a sheet-metal panel, without sliding on the panel. Each carriage (42) comprises an entraining member (44) and each slide (56) comprises an entrained member (58) which can be engaged by the entraining member (44) in order to move the slide (56) selectively towards the center of the press. The two carriages (42) are movable simultaneously in opposite directions upon command in order simultaneously to bring about the aforementioned movements of the shoes (50), by means of the slides (56).

The mechanical hand (16) comprises, on one hand, a zone (46) for the support and sliding of a panel or slab (SP) in a horizontal working plane (WP) and, on the other hand, a handling gripper (36) which can move horizontally along and across the whole range of said supporting and sliding zone (46). The gripper (36) has a lower jaw (40) located below the working plane (WP). The support and sliding zone (46) is defined by retractable members consisting of an array of vertically moving pillars (48) with each of which are associated positive control means for causing them to perform selectively a travel independently of that of the other pillars between a raised position in which one of its upper support and sliding surfaces is in the working plane (WP), and a lowered position in which the surface is at a level which is lower than that of the lower jaw (40) of the gripper (36). Control means are provided which interconnect the means (Mx, My, Mz) for controlling the movement of the gripper (36) and the means for controlling the movements of each support (48) such that, when the gripper (36) passes through and stops in the zone (46) of the pillars (48), the pillars (48a) which are in correspondence with or in the vicinity of the gripper (36) are lowered such that they do not interfere with its lower jaw (40) whilst the other pillars (48) are raised in order to hold the panel (SP).

A device for moving blades of a press used for bending sheets, has blades supported and placed in motion by a bending block which is movable in the vertical direction with respect to two counter blades with the sheet to be bent being placed between the two counter blades. For the purpose of imparting motion to the bending block with respect to the counter blades, there is provided a track along which the bending block rolls. There are also provided two connecting rods, the upper end of which is hinged to the lower part of the bending block. The two rods are pivoted in the lower part to an arm (7) which is placed substantially radially and which is integral with a cylinder (8). Cylinder (8) is integral with a second arm (9) which is connected with a fluid dynamic cylinder. There may also be provided a second fluid-dynamic cylinder which forms with the first fluid-dynamic cylinder a structure having cylindrical symmetry.

The movable blank-holder of a bending press includes a series of segments and a pair of motor-driven carriages each of which has an entraining member which can selectively engage and release the segments in order to move them for re-arrangement purposes. Each of two segments situated at opposite ends of the series includes a shoe-holder which supports a respective shoe by means of inclined guides. Each shoe-holder body carries a respective slide having a driving portion and each shoe has a driven portion. These driving and driven portions have facing cooperating pressure and sliding faces arranged in a manner such that a movement of the slide towards the center of the press is converted into an oblique movement of the respective shoe such that it is released from a lateral channel-shaped bend already formed in a metal sheet, without sliding on the sheet. Each carriage includes an entraining member and each slide includes an entrained member which can be engaged by the entraining member in order to move the slide selectively towards the center of the press. The two carriages are movable simultaneously in opposite directions upon command in order to simultaneously bring about the aforementioned movements of the shoes, by means of the slides, in directions such as to release them from the respective lateral bends. The shoes have respective resilient mechanisms for biasing them in directions to return each shoe to a working position to which it is moved away from the center of the press and from the movable blank-holder.

In particular the body is constituted by a punch placed in the central position within the seat (2), a shaped element (8) coaxial with the punch and a blank-holder (9) which is integral with the terminal lower part of the shaped element (8).
