摘要: The present invention embraces a winder for collection of linear material into a wound package. The winder comprises a driven rotatable collet upon which linear material is collected as a package in a package collection region. The collet includes a temporary collection region adjacent the collection region. The collet has in the temporary collection region a circumferential surface region and a member having at least a portion extending generally axially of the collet in spaced apart relation outwardly of the circumferential surface region and terminating to define an opening to a space between the outwardly disposed portion of the member and the circumferential surface region so that during rotation of the collet prior to package formation linear material extending along a path disposed in generally crossing relationship to the axis of rotation of the collet can be moved laterally of the path in a direction axially of the collet along its circumferential surface through the opening into the space between the circumferential surface region and the outwardly disposed portion of the member for catching engagement by the member to move the linear material with it and thereby to begin temporary collection of the linear material in the temporary collection region prior to package formation.

摘要: A strand collecting apparatus and method of the type in which the strand is split into bundles and advanced by, and wound onto, a rotating collet is disclosed. The strand is traversed linearly of the axis of rotation of the collet by the rotation of a rotating strand traverse. The strand traverse is oscillated in a direction parallel to the axis of rotation of the collet, and a strand splitter oscillates in phase with the strand traverse to guide the strand into engagement with the strand traverse.

摘要: A glass fiber bulk strand roving that is made up of a multiplicity of strands, each of which is made up of a plurality of individual fibers, for example, 200 of such fibers. Each strand of the roving has a multiplicity of rather long, axially extending loops, for example, axially extending loops with a calculated length of at least 6 inches, and a multiplicity of shorter, unbroken, cross-axially extending loops that are formed in the axially extending loops of such strands. The axially extending loops and the cross-axially extending loops interengage and intertwine with one another to form a composite entangled structure. The roving of the present invention is made by a process that uses a finger wheel to form axially extending loops in strands and a spinner downstream of the finger wheel. The looped strands from the finger wheel pass through a relatively unrestricted passage in the spinner which imparts a twist to such a looped strands, and then through a relatively restricted outlet orifice that is downstream of the outlet of the spinner. A back-up or puddling of the looped strands occurs in the spinner near the outlet thereof, due to the axial length of the loops in the strands and the restriction in the outlet of the spinner in the form of the outlet orifice, and this back-up or puddling of the looped strands in the spinner, in conjunction with the spinning thereof, results in the formation of the cross-axial loops in the axial loops of the strands.
