    摘要: A system and method for producing and receiving interactive broadcasting having a broadcast signal with a hypermedia channel and a logical multicast data channel. The logical multicast data channel has a broadcast signal markup stream (BSMS). The system users have a receiver with an interactivity module and a communication module. The BSMS allows user selectable objects to be displayed to users of the system. BSMS objects can be generated by combining speech recognition, language (and optionally video) processing, and keyword searches. By selecting objects various information relating to those objects may be displayed to users. A portion of the logical multicast channel may be employed to provide interactivity between users. A variation eliminates the BSMS either by employing a markup stream server to provide access links or by generating link content directly in the receiver by the same process.

The communication system integrates heterogeneous satellite transmission systems, local area computer networks, and the public telephone system to implement a flexible, high-speed communication system. The preferred mobile base station includes a receiver for receiving information signals transmitted from a broadcast server, a network interface for distributing processed information signals, and a software proxy process for processing information signals. A software proxy process controls the dissemination of information through the network. The software proxy process provides filter and protocol functions to facilitate interconnection between heterogenous communication systems.

    摘要: A method, apparatus, article of manufacture, and a memory structure for multicasting data in a cellular personal access communication system is disclosed. The method comprises the steps of allocating a multicast packet terminal identifier to a multicast group when a subscriber unit in a cell requests membership in the multicast group, receiving a multicast packet having a global multicast address, determining a cell identifier from a mapping of the global multicast address to at least one local multicast identifier and a cell identifier, and forwarding the multicast packet to the cell according to the cell identifier. The apparatus comprises a radio port controller unit having a packet data control unit coupled to a radio port configured to receive a multicast packet and a packet forwarding module. The packet data control unit includes an allocation module configured to allocate a local multicast identifier to a multicast group when a subscriber unit in a cell requests membership in the multicast group. The packet forwarding module is configured to determine a cell identifier from a mapping of the global multicast address to at least one local packet terminal identifier and a cell identifier and to forward the multicast packet to a cell according to the cell identifier.

    摘要: A method for establishing and maintaining a wireless ad hoc network comprising backbone nodes which forward packets through the network and non-backbone nodes which are capable of using the network, but do not forward packets. Signaling packets containing one or more protocol support records are periodically generated and transmitted by each node to neighboring nodes and are forwarded through the network by backbone nodes. Non-network nodes are initially selected to become backbone members during a SELECTION process based on an assessment of the node's connectivity relative to its neighbors. Link quality between nodes is monitored and used during an EXPANSION process in which additional non-network nodes may become backbone members. Disconnected backbone segments are interconnected during a CONNECTION process and the network is maintained during a MAINTENANCE process by periodically assessing the value of a backbone node's membership in the backbone. Efficient multicast routing is supported over the backbone by dynamically establishing and maintaining multicast trees. Signaling packets are periodically and frequently generated, thereby facilitating rapid adaptation to network changes. Further, the signaling packets are efficiently forwarded only by backbone nodes, thereby reducing bandwidth associated with establishing and maintaining the network.
