Abstract: Described herein is a method for joining a first metal pipe with a second metal pipe, the pipes being joined together in an overlapping area by use of a two-component polyurethane adhesive that encapsulates the overlapping area, where the method includes the steps of:
(1) applying the two-component polyurethane adhesive onto an inner surface of a fixture; (2) inserting one end of the first metal pipe into one end of the second metal pipe so as to form a pipe assembly having the overlapping area between the two ends, and putting the overlapping area of the pipe assembly into the fixture; (3) closing the fixture such that the overlapping area of the pipe assembly is fixed in the fixture, and such that the adhesive therein encapsulates the overlapping area of the pipe assembly; (4) curing the two-component polyurethane adhesive; and (5) optionally, removing the fixture from the pipe assembly.-

Abstract: The invention relates to a method for producing seals made of polyurethane, in which (a) aliphatic polyisocyanate, (b) compounds containing at least two isocyanate-reactive groups, (c) catalysts, (d) antioxidants and/or light stabilizers, and, optionally, (e) blowing agents, and (f) auxiliary agents and/or additives are mixed to form a reaction mixture, and the reaction mixture is allowed to complete the reaction to form polyurethane. The seal made of polyurethane has a Shore A hardness of less than 90 and a density of at least 850 g/L. The polymeric compounds having groups reactive toward isocyanate include b1) polyetherols having a functionality of 2 to 4 and a hydroxyl number of 20 to 100 mg KOH/g, b2) hydrophobic polyols having an OH number of less than 180 mg KOH/g and a functionality of greater than 2 to 3, and b3) chain extenders.

Abstract: Described herein is a moisture-curing polyurethane hot-melt adhesive including at least 80% by weight, based on a total weight of the moisture-curing polyurethane hot-melt adhesive, of isocyanate-terminated prepolymer obtainable by mixing diisocyanate (a) with compounds having at least two isocyanate-reactive groups (b) and reacting the mixture to form the isocyanate-terminated prepolymer, where the compounds having at least two isocyanate-reactive groups (b) include at least one polylactide (b1) obtainable by reacting lactide with a linear difunctional starter molecule having 2 to 20 carbon atoms and the isocyanate content of the isocyanate-terminated prepolymer is 1 to 5% by weight. Also described herein is a process for producing such a moisture-curing polyurethane hot-melt adhesive and a method of using the moisture-curing polyurethane hot-melt adhesive in bonding of substrates.

Abstract: Polyurethane-polyisocyanurate compounds and processes for preparing polyurethane-polyisocyanurate compounds are disclosed herein. A process includes mixing component (a) polyisocyanate with component (b) a mixture obtainable by introducing an alkali metal or alkaline earth metal salt into a compound R—NH—CO—R containing urethane groups, where R is not hydrogen and is not COR, component (c) compounds containing one or more epoxide groups, component (d) one or more compounds having at least two isocyanate-reactive groups, comprising compounds having NH2 and/or primary OH groups, and component (e) optionally fillers and other additives, to form a reaction mixture, and reacting the reaction mixture to form the polyurethane-polyisocyanurate compound, wherein the molar amount of alkali metal and/or alkaline earth metal ions in the reaction mixture per mole of urethane group in component (b) is 0.0001 to 3.5 and the isocyanate index is greater than 150. Use of polyurethane-polyisocyanate compounds for producing vehicle parts is also disclosed.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a process for producing a molding (FK), comprising the production of a thermoplastic polyurethane, comprising the reaction of at least one polyisocyanate composition, at least one chain extender, and at least one polyol composition, the production of a molding (FK*) from the thermoplastic polyurethane, the heating of the molding (FK*) to a temperature below the temperature at which the molding (FK*) is permanently deformable, and above the switching temperature of the thermoplastic polyurethane, the compressing of the heated molding (FK*) to give a molding (FK), and the cooling of the molding (FK) to a temperature below the switching temperature of the thermoplastic polyurethane, and also to the moldings obtainable or obtained by such a process.
