Abstract: Process for preparing paper and paper making compositions characterized by adding basic polyamides which are high-molecular water-soluble reaction products have been obtained by the reaction of compounds which are polyfunctional with regard to amino groups, with basic polyamides which are dissolved or dispersed in water and are derived from polyvalent amines, dicarboxylic acids and amino-carboxylic acids containing at least 3 carbon atoms, or their lactams, and for the preparation of said reaction products has been used 0.6-0.01 gram equivalent of reactive groups in the polyfunctional compounds for every gramequivalent of basic amino groups in the basic polyamides.
