    摘要: A premoistened towelette or wiper type paper product having high wet strength when stored in an acidic pH medium and during usage and lower wet strength when immersed in a neutral or alkaline pH medium for disposal in conventional sewage systems comprising a non-woven fibrous web which is treated with an improved polymeric binder comprising a copolymer of glyoxal and polyvinyl alcohol which maintains high wet strength when stored for sustained periods of time in acidic pH wetting medium conventionally used for external cleansing of the human body and during usage and yet which will readily break-up during flushing. This instant invention also comprises a method of treating non-woven fibrous webs with the improved glyoxalated polyvinyl alcohol copolymer binder and drying prior to wetting in an acidic, e.g. boric acid medium.

    摘要: A nonwoven product formed from a nonwoven web of fibers bonded together with a binder comprising an interpolymer of vinyl acetate/ethylene/N-methylol acrylamide/acrylamide, the interpolymer comprising about 5 to 40 wt % ethylene and an amount of N-methylol acrylamide and acrylamide which is about 3.0 to 10 wt % of the interpolymer, the N-methylol acrylamide being about 1.75 to 3.5 wt % and the acrylamide about 1.25 to 8.25 wt %. Such nonwoven products have a low residual free formaldehyde content and good tensile properties.

    摘要: A paper felt or mat is made from an aqueous slurry or dispersion of kraft wood pulp, a number of compounding ingredients such as finely divided inorganic pigments and fillers, a binder, an anionic latex of a copolymer wherein the core of the copolymer comprises a copolymer of a vinyl aryl monomer and a dicarboxylic acid monomer such as fumaric acid and/or itaconic acid and wherein the shell comprises a copolymer of a vinyl aryl monomer, a conjugated diene monomer, a glycidyl monomer such as glycidyl acrylate and/or glycidyl methacrylate and optionally a monocarboxylic acid monomer such as acrylic acid and/or methacrylic acid. The mat of this invention exhibits improved properties over mats made from other latex binders.

    摘要: A paper material has been invented that contains cellulose substituted by means of N-methylol compounds. As N-methylol compounds may be used, e.g., reaction products of urea, glyoxal, and formaldehyde, methylolated melamines, and N-methylol-acrylamide copolymers. The paper is manufactured best by impregnating paper with an aqueous solution or dispersion of a N-methylol compound and by drying it at 130.degree. to 200.degree. C. in order to produce condensation. Papers in accordance with the invention have good properties of strength against decomposition and wet strength, which properties can be adjusted readily by varying the degree of substitution or cross-linking of the cellulose. The papers are particularly well suitable, e.g., for the manufacture of plant-growing pots and corrugated fibreboard.
