摘要: An electrical submersible well pump assembly has shaft couplings. One of the couplings has a lower hub that rotates in unison with the motor shaft and an upper hub that rotates in unison with the pump shaft. A helical spring clutch engages both hubs when the motor shaft is being driven by the motor. Ceasing driving rotation of the motor shaft causes the spring clutch to disengage from the upper hub, enabling the pump shaft to rotate the upper hub without rotating the lower hub.

摘要: A submersible pump electrical motor has a bearing hub between adjacent rotor sections. The bearing hub has a hub outward facing sidewall and a hub inward facing hub sidewall through which the shaft extends. A collar having a collar inward facing sidewall is rigidly mounted to the hub outward facing sidewall. The collar has a collar outward facing sidewall spaced from stator sidewall by an annular clearance. A slit in the collar extends from the collar inward facing sidewall to the collar outward facing sidewall. An anti-rotation spring has a supporting portion inwardly biased against the hub outward facing sidewall and a locking portion protruding outward through the slit into engagement with the groove to prevent rotation of the hub and the collar.

摘要: An electrical submersible well pump assembly (ESP) has a spring brake having helical turns mounted between the shaft and one of the housings. The spring brake allows free rotation of the shaft in a driving direction and stops the shaft from rotating in a reverse direction. The spring brake may have one end be affixed to the housing to rotate in unison in both directions. Alternately, the spring brake may have one end affixed to the shaft for rotation with the shaft. Further, the spring brake could be free of being connected to either the shaft or the housing. A shear member may be mounted between the shaft and the housing to prevent any rotation of the shaft during run-in.

In one embodiment, a method includes removing a permanent magnet rotor assembly from a motor and heating the rotor to burn off the residual oil and evaporate water in between laminations of the rotor and on the rotor surface. The rotor should be heated to a temperature that is above a flashpoint of oil on the rotor and below a Curie temperature of a material of a set of permanent magnets in the rotor (e.g., at least 600° F. for at least 12 hours). The heating may partially or fully demagnetize the permanent magnets in the rotor. The exposed surfaces of the rotor are then cleaned and the permanent magnets in the rotor are remagnetized using a specialized magnetizing fixture.

摘要: An ESP system having a driveshaft assembly; an electrical motor coupled with an end of the driveshaft assembly, and that when energized rotates the driveshaft assembly in a first direction. The ESP system also includes a pump coupled with an end of the driveshaft assembly distal from the motor, and a one-way clutch train in the driveshaft assembly that arrests rotation of the driveshaft assembly in a second direction. In this example the driveshaft assembly includes a pump shaft having an end engaged with an end of a motor shaft; opposing ends of the pump and motor shafts respectively couple with the pump and motor. The one-way clutch train includes a shaft-to-shaft clutch coupled between inner and outer surfaces of the pump and motor shafts and a shaft to housing clutch coupled between an outer surface of one of the pump and motor shafts and an outer housing.

The pumping system includes a pump driven by a motor, which may be an integrated motor or a separated motor in which the stator and rotor are separated by the production tubing. The pumping system can be provided power through a reinforced power cable that is capable of supporting the weight of some combination of the motor and pump, or through a standard power cable that is not designed to carry the weight of additional downhole components.
