Each customer premise equipment data request includes a customer premise equipment access certificate to gain access to particular customer premise equipment data. The method also includes receiving, at the customer premise equipment management system, the requested customer premise equipment data.

A system that incorporates teachings of the present disclosure may include, for example, a data switch having a controller element to transmit telemetry data representative of bandwidth usage by one or more users of the data switch. At least one higher bandwidth user can have an increased polling frequency based at least in part on a differential in upstream and downstream data transfer rates for the one or more users. Additional embodiments are disclosed.

    摘要： System and method to collect data from customer premise equipment (CPE) are provided. According to example embodiments disclosed herein, there is provided system and method allowing CPE to be queried by a CPE management system (CMS) via commands originated from a CPE data collection system. A system according to an example embodiment may include CPE, a CMS, and a CPE data collection system. The CMS system may transmit commands to query CPE; and the CPE may receive the commands and respond by sending stored data to the CMS. The received data by the CMS may be transferred to the CPE data collection system. The CPE may comprise a transceiver module to receive commands from the CMS, the commands originated from the CPE data collection system and to transmit stored data to the CMS; and a memory device to store data.

A CPE data collection module uses a Web-based service to collect information from the CPE and process the information to determine line quality and any errors that may exist on either the WAN side or the LAN side of the communications network, and further determine the root cause based on built-in business rules for trouble shooting customer service. The CPE conducts per-tone diagnostics on the WAN side of the communications network and obtains WAN side data. The CPE obtains response data from devices on the LAN side. Both WAN side data and LAN data may be transmitted substantially in real-time or stored and transmitted periodically to the CPE data collection module upon requests originated from the CPE data collection module.
