    摘要: An information processing system automatically identifies the page of a book, notebook, flip chart, writing pad, or the like. The system uses an optical sensor to read an identification code printed on each page (and the cover) of the book and processes the code to determine identifying information (e.g., page number) for the page. The optical sensor and related components are adjacent to the book and operate unobtrusively, yet reliability, at a distance therefrom. The system, which uses ambient light and selectively activates its own light source, is capable of operating under variable lighting conditions and requires no manual intervention by the user. In addition, the system is reliable and robust in that it allows standard printing techniques to be used to print the identification code on each page of the book.

    摘要: A multimedia linking device automatically links user notations (e.g., handwritten notes) made on a page to time-varying data (e.g., audio). Consequently, a user can take notes while observing a multimedia presentation, for example, and later review the notes and the corresponding segments of the recorded multimedia presentation. This dynamic linking capability also enables a user to add new notes during playback, which are automatically linked to the segment of the multimedia presentation playing when the new notes are made. Similarly, new recordings can be appended to the multimedia presentation and they will be automatically linked to corresponding user notations. The user can also stop the playback of the recording and add new notes which are automatically linked to the segment of the multimedia presentation that was playing when the playback was interrupted.

    摘要: Techniques are described herein that are capable of suggesting intent frame(s) for user request(s). For instance, the intent frame(s) may be suggested to elicit a request from a user. An intent frame is a natural language phrase (e.g., a sentence) that includes at least one carrier phrase and at least one slot. A slot in an intent frame is a placeholder that is identified as being replaceable by one or more words that identify an entity and/or an action to indicate an intent of the user. A carrier phrase in an intent frame includes one or more words that suggest a type of entity and/or action that is to be identified by the one or more words that may replace the corresponding slot. In accordance with these techniques, the intent frame(s) are suggested in response to determining that natural language functionality of a processing system is activated.

    摘要: A computerized interactor system uses physical, three-dimensional objects as metaphors for input of user intent to a computer system. When one or more interactors are engaged with a detection field, the detection field reads an identifier associated with the object and communicates the identifier to a computer system. The computer system determines the meaning of the interactor based upon its identifier and upon a semantic context in which the computer system is operating. The interactors can be used to control other systems, such as audio systems, or it can be used as intuitive inputs into a computer system for such purposes as marking events in a temporal flow. The interactors, as a minimum, communicate their identity, but may also be more sophisticated in that they can communicate additional processed or unprocessed data, i.e. they can include their own data processors. The detection field can be one-dimensional or multi-dimensional, and typically has different semantic meanings associated with different parts of the detection field.

    摘要: A map of a destination and its immediate surroundings are displayed at a relatively low level. Symbolic context information is displayed simultaneously, in order to provide a higher-level context for the location. The symbolic context information can include such things as nearby highways, exits, bridges, sports venues or other landmarks and points of interest. The symbolic context information can be displayed, for example, on the perimeter of the map, or on the map in a distinct visual style such as a different color or font or fish-eye view. As the map is updated, (for example if the user zooms in or out), the context information is updated as well. The context information can be interactive, and can display the relationship between the context item and the location being mapped.
