摘要: Aquatic organism monitoring devices and aquatic organism monitoring methods are described. According to one aspect, a monitoring device includes a housing configured to be physically associated with an aquatic organism, environmental circuitry configured to generate a first output indicative of at least one environmental parameter of an environment of the organism, behavioral circuitry coupled with the housing and configured to generate a second output indicative of at least one behavioral parameter of the organism, physiological circuitry coupled with the housing and configured to generate a third output indicative of at least one physiological parameter of the organism, and a transmitter configured to transmit an acoustic signal externally of the housing, and wherein the acoustic signal includes information regarding one or more of the at least one environmental parameter, the at least one behavioral parameter, and the at least one physiological parameter.

摘要: Aquatic tracking makes use of acoustics, rather than other signals that do not travel as well in water. Tracking devices are used to monitor species of fish and other aquatic animals to monitor how their populations and movements are in nature, and how or whether those populations and movements are affected by, for example, hydroelectric dams and other manmade structures and phenomena. Often, the trackers inserted in aquatic animals adversely affect the animals and can lead to mortality or changed behaviors. New solutions that decrease the size and weight of such tracking devices are disclosed herein, enabling better tracking of aquatic animals that is less likely to cause adverse effects to those populations.

摘要: Aquatic organism tracking devices, systems and associated methods are described. According to one aspect, an aquatic organism tracking device includes a housing, a transducer coupled with the housing and configured to transmit a data transmission externally of the housing and an aquatic organism associated with the tracking device, a programmable oscillator coupled with the housing, and wherein the programmable oscillator is configured to generate a clock signal having a selected one of a plurality of different frequencies, processing circuitry coupled with the housing and configured to receive the clock signal from the programmable oscillator and to execute a plurality of executable instructions according to the clock signal, a power source coupled with the housing and configured to store electrical energy, and wherein the processing circuitry is configured to control the provision of the electrical energy from the power source to the transducer to generate the data transmission as a result of the execution of the instructions.

摘要: A new acoustic tag and process are disclosed for identifying and tracking underwater hosts in up to three dimensions. The acoustic tag has an operation lifetime up to a year or longer at a pulse rate interval of about 15 seconds. The acoustic tag has a signal detection range up to at least about 500 meters that enhances detection probability.

Animals having a transmitter coupled thereto are also provided with the transmitter including an energy harvesting element in operational alignment with the animal's musculoskeletal system. Methods for transmitting the location of an animal are also provided with the methods including: coupling a transmitter powered by an energy harvesting element to the animal; and monitoring the transmissions of the transmitter.

摘要: Sensor assemblies are provided for use in modeling water systems. These sensor assemblies can be used as sensor fish. These assemblies can include a circuit board supporting processing circuitry components on either or both opposing component support surfaces of the circuit board and a housing above the circuit board and the components, with the housing being circular about the circuit board in at least one cross section, and wherein the supporting surfaces of the circuit board are substantially parallel with the plane of the housing in the one cross section. Methods for emulating interaction of entities within water systems are provided. The methods can include introducing a sensor assembly into a water system. The sensor assembly can include: a circuit board supporting processing circuitry components on either or both of opposing component support surfaces of the circuit board; a housing about the circuit board and the components, the housing being circular about the circuit board in at least one cross section; and wherein the support surfaces of the circuit board are substantially parallel with the plane of the housing in the one cross section.

摘要: An improved sensor fish with robust design and enhanced measurement capabilities. This sensor fish contains sensors for acceleration, rotation, magnetic field intensity, pressure, and temperature. A low-power microcontroller collects data from the sensors and stores up to 5 minutes of data on a non-volatile flash memory. A rechargeable battery supplies power to the sensor fish. A recovery system helps locating sensor fish. The package, when ready for use is nearly neutrally buoyant and thus mimics the behavior of an actual fish.
