Disclosed is a pre-treated ion exchange resin comprising at least 15% by total number of exchangeable groups comprising at least one of an ion, or a Lewis acid, or a Lewis base resulting from a heat transfer fluid component having a pKa or pKb of greater than 5 in an aqueous solution at 25° C., based on the total number of exchangeable groups. In one embodiment, the heat transfer fluid component is at least one of a colorant, a corrosion inhibitor, an antifoaming agent, a bitterant, a dispersant, or a combination thereof. In one embodiment, the heat transfer fluid component comprises a heat transfer fluid corrosion inhibitor. Also disclosed are heat transfer systems, assemblies, fuel cell systems and methods of maintaining a conductivity of less than 200 μS/cm in a heat transfer fluid that employ the disclosed pre-treated ion exchange resins.

Disclosed are coolants comprising brazed metal corrosion inhibitors. In one embodiment, the disclosed brazed metal corrosion inhibitor will comprise a polycarboxylic acid functional compound having the structure: wherein R1, R2, R3, and R4 are each independently selected from the group consisting of H, OH, COOH, C1-C10alkyl groups, glycol esters, anhydride groups, —COOM, and combinations thereof, wherein M is at least one of H, alkali metal ions, alkali earth metal ions, NH4+, amines, imidazoline, polyalcohol esters, C1 to C12 alkyl groups, and combinations thereof; wherein (1) at least three of R1, R2, R3, and R4 contain the group —COOM, wherein M is defined above; or (2) at least two of R1, R2, R3, and R4 contain an anhydride group, and at least one of R1, R2, R3, and R4 contain the group —COOM, wherein M is defined above.

The cleaner-passivator comprises a complexing agent, a surfactant, a corrosion inhibitor, and a solvent. The cleaner-passivator reduces the contaminants circulating in the fuel cell coolant system that contribute to increasing conductivity in the fuel cell coolant. In addition, the passivator reduces the surface corrosion in the fuel cell system.

The method comprises making a stabilized concentrate by adding to a coolant concentrate at least one stabilizer selected from the group consisting of polyacrylate polymers of the formula: where R1 is H; R4 is a terminating group; X is and R2 and R3 are each independently hydrogen, an alkali earth metal or an alkaline earth metal, and the start of m and n provide a number average equivalent weight of less than 6500, and a number average molecular weight of less than 6500, the concentrate comprising 90 or more wt % freezing point depressant and then diluting the stabilized coolant concentrate with hard water to provide a final coolant composition.
