The fault management system includes a configuration manager that maintains configuration information of components used in the distributed system. A plurality of measurement agents obtain performance information from the components in the distributed system. A diagnostic system has a plurality of rules written according to the configuration information stored therein. The diagnostic system is coupled to the configuration manager and each of the plurality of measurement agents and identifies faults occurring in the distributed system and provides solutions for correcting the faults The diagnostic system receives the configuration information from the configuration manager and the performance information from the plurality of measurement agents and uses the configuration and performance information with the plurality of rules to identify faults and provide solutions for the faults.

摘要: A system for preventing drowsiness in a driver by employing a thermal grill. The system includes a detection module and an intervention module. The detection module monitors a driver's parameters to determine whether the driver is drowsy. If the driver is determined to be drowsy, the intervention module activates a thermal grill with interlaced hot and cold regions. This activation causes the hot regions to approach one temperature and the cold regions to approach another. Additionally, this activation leads to an uncomfortable sensation for the driver, alerts the driver, and prevents the driver from getting drowsy.

摘要: An improved method and related apparatus is provided for magnetic resonance imaging with distortions due to magnetic field inhomogeneities and subject susceptibility corrected. The method includes providing a subject positioned within a main magnetic field, a source of RF signals, a receiver for receiving signals emitted from the subject responsive to the RF pulses and emitting responsive output signals, a computer for receiving the output signals from the receiver and establishing image information related thereto and a visual display for displaying images obtained from the image information. The improved method includes performing a first image generating sequence including generating a 90.degree. RF pulse while simultaneously applying a first slice selection gradient, a phase-encoding gradient and subsequently applying a first preparation gradient after which a 180.degree. refocussing pulse is generated. Subsequently a first read-out gradient is generated while the echo signal is read by the receiver. The sequences is repeated a sufficient number of times to create a first volume image. A second image generating sequence is performed which is similar to the first except that the slice selection gradient, the preparation gradient and the read-out gradient are changed by the same ratio. The second image thereby generated is combined by a computer to create a third, nondistorted image, which may then be delivered to a visual display or other application.

摘要: A system for keeping a driver alert by employing a thermal grill that includes warm and cool regions. The disclosed system includes an alert module that configures the thermal grill to a heat sink configuration and a heat source configuration. The thermal grill in the heat sink configuration extracts heat from the driver's body, lowers the driver's temperature, and keeps the driver alert. The thermal grill in the heat source configuration raises the driver's temperature and avoids vasoconstriction. The alert module also monitors at least one of the driver's biomarkers like blood flow in the driver's fingers. The alert module monitors the driver's biomarkers to determine when to reconfigure the thermal grill to a configuration other than the heat sink configuration. For example, if the monitored biomarkers indicate that the driver is in a vasoconstricted state, the alert module can reconfigure the thermal grill.

摘要: The present invention pertains to a fiducial implant for the human body that is detectable by an imaging system. The invention is comprised of a first portion and a second portion. The first portion is configured to be detected by an imaging system when place beneath the skin. The second portion is configured for fixed attachment to a bone beneath the skin without penetrating entirely through the bone and without penetrating entirely through the bone and without fracturing the bone. The first portion is sufficiently large and comprised of a material for detection by an imaging system, and sufficiently small to avoid the distortion of the skin when placed at an interface between the skin and the bone. The first portion also has at least a portion which is spherical and defines a surface for cooperating with a tool for securing the second portion to the bone. Additionally, the placement of n fiducial implants, where n.gtoreq.4 and an integer, into a portion of anatomy of the human body allows for the recreation of a particular image slice of the portion of the anatomy taken by an imaging system with respect to a first time period, at subsequent imaging sessions and also with different scan modalities. This provides a doctor with the ability to accurately follow the progress of the portion of the anatomy of interest. Moreover, the existence of an fiducial implants allows a target to be identified within the portion of anatomy relative to an external coordinate system. The portion of anatomy with the target may then be operated on, for instance, robotically, or precisely irradiated.

摘要: The trajectory of a surgical instrument or tool used for a stereotactic medical procedure is controlled by a passive apparatus having two pivots into which the tool may be inserted. The pivots, which serve as end effectors, are placed at points along a selected trajectory. The pivots are mounted to members attached to carriages. The carriages allow movement in a plane, whereas the members may move perpendicular to the plane. Indicia allow the pivots to be moved to a desired point and fasteners then secure the pivots in place, while allowing the pivots free rotation relative to two perpendicular axes.
