Abstract: A fuel injector includes an injector housing defining a longitudinal axis extending between a first axial injector end and a second axial injector end. The injector housing includes an upper body piece forming the first axial injector end and including a fuel connector defining a connector axis intersecting the longitudinal axis. The injector housing further includes a nozzle having formed therein a plurality of spray outlets, and including a nozzle terminal tip. An injector full diameter (FD) is defined by the upper body piece. An axial distance (AD) is defined between an intersection of the connector axis and the longitudinal axis, and the nozzle terminal tip. A ratio of AD to FD is from 4.8 to 5.1.

Abstract: A fuel injector includes an injector housing defining a longitudinal axis, and including a body piece having formed therein a fuel inlet defining a transverse axis intersecting the longitudinal axis. The injector housing further includes a nozzle having formed therein a plurality of spray outlets, and including a nozzle terminal tip. The injector housing further includes a locating surface axially inward of the nozzle terminal tip and extending circumferentially around the nozzle. A first axial distance (AD) is defined between an intersection of the transverse axis and the longitudinal axis, and the nozzle terminal tip. An exposed tip length axial distance (TL) is defined between the locating surface and the nozzle terminal tip. A ratio of AD to TL is from 8.06 to 8.34.

Abstract: A fuel injector assembly includes a fuel injector defining a longitudinal axis extending between a first axial injector end, and a second axial injector end. The fuel injector further includes, between the first axial injector end and the second axial injector end, a first clamp face and a second clamp face defining a middle plane. The fuel injector assembly further includes a clamp having a forked injector portion forming a slot receiving the fuel injector and in contact with each of the first clamp face and the second clamp face, and a bolting portion having a bolt hole formed therein. The bolt hole defines a bolt hole axis oriented parallel to the longitudinal axis and offset from the middle plane.

Abstract: A method of increasing parasitic load on an internal combustion engine includes injecting a fuel into a combustion chamber of an active cylinder of the internal combustion engine, combusting the injected fuel in the combustion chamber of the active cylinder, and determining that increasing a temperature of an exhaust aftertreatment device is required. The method includes increasing a parasitic load on the internal combustion engine by deactivating a cylinder, wherein no fuel is injected in the deactivated cylinder for a combustion cycle of the internal combustion engine, and further increasing the parasitic load by pulsing a spill valve member of a spill valve of a fuel injector in the deactivated cylinder between a fully closed position and an at least partially open position.

Abstract: A machine includes a VGT and a controller. The controller monitors, based on causing the VGT to operate according to the non-dynamic control scheme, a plurality of hardware limit parameters associated with an engine of the machine. The controller determines that a hardware limit parameter, of the plurality of hardware limit parameters, satisfies a dynamic threshold for the hardware limit parameter and thereby causes the VGT to operate according to a dynamic control scheme. The controller then monitors the plurality of hardware limit parameters and thereby determines that each hardware limit parameter, of the plurality of hardware limit parameters, satisfies a non-dynamic threshold for the hardware limit parameter. The controller therefore causes the VGT to operate again according to the non-dynamic control scheme.

Abstract: A controller may identify a plurality of sets of potential parameters associated with operation of an engine, wherein each set of potential parameters includes a potential setting of a turbine of a variable geometry turbocharger (VGT) of the engine and a potential setting of an intake throttle valve (ITV) of the engine. The controller may determine, based on the plurality of sets of potential parameters, a plurality of sets of predicted values, wherein each set of predicted values includes a predicted outlet pressure of a compressor of the VGT and a predicted temperature of an exhaust gas of the engine. The controller may determine respective scores of the plurality of sets of predicted values, and may select, based on the respective scores, a particular set of predicted values of the plurality of sets of predicted values. The controller may thereby control the turbine of the VGT and the ITV.
