Abstract: A method of manufacturing an undercarriage track joint assembly includes forming at least a first portion of a seal assembly by laser brazing an annular, metal sealing washer to a first track link of the undercarriage track joint assembly. The method may also include performing the laser brazing to form at least one of an annular fillet of braze material between the first track link and at least a portion of an inner diameter surface of the washer and an annular fillet of braze material between the first track link and at least a portion of an outer diameter surface of the washer. The method may still further include inserting a second portion of the seal assembly into a counterbore formed in an axial face of a second track link of the track joint assembly such that an axial sealing face of the washer opposite from the first track link slidably engages with the second portion of the seal assembly on the second track link of the track joint assembly to form a sealing surface between the first and second track links.

Abstract: A poppet valve has an elongated stem that is configured to extend along a longitudinal axis. The poppet valve further includes a valve body that is disposed laterally with respect to the longitudinal axis and located in a spaced apart relation with an end of the elongated stem. The valve body has a pair of opposing faces disposed co-axial with the longitudinal axis of the elongated stem. The poppet valve also includes at least two arcuately shaped appendages depending downwardly from the end of the elongated stem and extending away from the longitudinal axis of the elongated stem. An end of each appendage is disposed in abutment with an annular region defined on one of the opposing faces of the valve body, a perimeter of the annular region being larger than a perimeter of the elongated stem measured about the longitudinal axis.

Abstract: A laser polishing method for a metal face seal is provided. The method includes determining, using a processor, a first smoothness level of a seal face surface of the metal face seal. The method includes applying, using the processor, a laser beam at a first angle to at least one peak on the seal face surface of the metal face seal, the first angle measured relative to a normal to the seal face surface. The method includes determining, using the processor, a second smoothness level of the seal face surface. The method includes controlling, using the processor, the laser beam until the second smoothness level is equal to a threshold smoothness level. The method includes turning off the laser beam, using the processor, when the second smoothness level is equal to the threshold smoothness level isotropically over the seal face surface.

Abstract: A method for laser cladding a material onto a surface of a machine component using a laser scanning head with laser scanning optics is disclosed. The method includes forming a molten bead of cladding material by directing a beam with the laser scanning optics over a bead scan on the machine component. The method also includes directing the beam with the laser scanning optics over a secondary scan on the machine component, the secondary scan being offset from the bead scan at a predetermined distance on the machine component.

Abstract: A method for repairing a rotor wheel including an airfoil using a blade repair assembly is disclosed. The blade repair assembly includes a first block and a second block, each including a contact surface with a shape of at least a portion of the airfoil and a cavity surface adjacent the contact surface. The method includes pre-machining an airfoil edge to a uniform height. The method also includes clamping the first block and the second block to the airfoil forming a cavity with the cavity surfaces and the airfoil edge. The method also includes filling the cavity with a metal including metallurgically bonding the metal to the airfoil.
