Abstract:
A device comprising means capable of emitting an electrical signal and means responsive to said signal and adapted to command a change of gear. The means capable of emitting the signal include a light source which can be caused to communicate with a receiver element capable of triggering the electrical signal, and two rotatable shafts, the angular amplitudes of whose rotations depend respectively on engine operating parameters. The two shafts cooperate with means for causing the light emitter and receiver to communicate. Application to the control of an automobile gearbox.
Abstract:
A honing head is constructed with at least two honing members so that two co-axial bores, not necessarily of the same diameter can be honed simultaneously. A mechanism serves to expand the honing members simultaneously and in dependence upon the resistive torque detected by a detector. A pneumatic device including a nozzle connected in a circuit serves to detect when one of the honing members contacts the corresponding bore to be honed. This contact serves to increase by a predetermined value, depending on the particular honing member at which contact was detected, the value of the resistive torque.
Abstract:
This hydro-pneumatic suspension device for motor vehicles comprising at least two accumulators set at different pressures and at least one slide valve distributor adapted to connect said accumulators having different pressures, separately and by turn, to cylinders associated with the wheels of the vehicle, said slide valve distributor being urged to a first positon by a gaged resilient member and pushed to another position by the fluid pressure in the load circuit when this pressure exceeds a predetermined threshold value, said device comprising in the circuit connecting said cylinder to said slide valve distributor a switching delay valve comprising means for holding its slide member in two predetermined positions, whereby the passage from one position to the other position of said slide member takes place according to the direction of movement at different values of the suspension pressure.
Abstract:
This invention relates to multi-stage rotary jacks, of the kind in which each stage has a vane that is capable of turning with respect to the wall of a cylindrical casing, the vane or the casing constituting, as desired, a rotor and a stator and all the stages being coaxially aligned one above the other. According to the invention, the stator and rotor members of each stage are idly mounted on a central shaft except for one of said members of an end stage and this excepted end member is keyed to the central shaft to rotate therewith but the rotor of each stage is keyed to the stator of one of its two contiguous stages so as to rotate therewith.
Abstract:
Remote control linkage for a gearbox of a motor vehicle includes a pair of driven levers, one for selecting the gear ratios and the other for actually producing the shifting to the selected gear ratio. The levers are operatively connected to a gear shift lever operable by the driver through linkage including a pair of links pivotally connected to the driven levers and a main control rod extending across the links. One link connects one of the driven levers to one arm of a control member consisting of a twoarmed bell-crank lever fulcrumed at the junction of its two arms to a pivot pin rigid with the body of the vehicle. The main control rod is pivotally connected at three points, that is, to the other link connected to the other driven lever, to the end of the other arm of the two-armed control member, and to the gear shift lever. The pivotal connections between the main control rod and the other link and the other arm of the bell-crank lever consist of universal ball-and-socket joints. The center of the pivotal connection between the main control rod and the gear shift lever is located at the end of the gear shift lever on an axis extending across the main rod.
Abstract:
A fluid valve means having a differential piston associated with a dead body. The differential piston has a plurality of stepped portions of different diameters. A cylinder is provided having an accurate bore of at least one of these diameters in which one portion of the piston is slidable. A further bore is provided in the cylinder having a clearance machined to a dimension with large tolerances, and housed in this further bore is at least one other part known as a ''''dead body'''' which is provided with an accurate blind bore in which slides a portion of the piston of another diameter. A cover closes the further bore and ensures the fluid-tightness of the cylinder. The various cylindrical portions of the piston unequal diameter slide, with a smooth and fluidtight action, almost without play and without hard spots, in bores formed in the various parts of the cylinder.
Abstract:
In a motor vehicle an anti-locking braking device associated with the wheel brakes and including supply fluid under pressure connectible to the brake cylinders through a three-way valve which is controlled by a known device for detecting abnormal deceleration of the wheels. The valve is interposed between the supply, the brake cylinders and exhaust and can be operated to connect the suuply to the brake cylinders or the brake cylinders to exhaust. In the exhaust path there is provided a flow-limiter which may be merely a restriction orofice and a damper interposed in the exhaust path between the controlled three-way valve and the flow-limiter. The damper may simply be a piston and cylinder device in communication with the exhaust path, the piston being balanced by the exhausting fluid pressure and a spring.

A TOOL FOR HONING SPHERICAL SURFACES BY ELECTROLYTIC ACTION INCLUDES A CONCAVE SPHERICAL SURFACE CONNECTED AS ONE ELECTRODE WHILST THE SPHERICAL SURFACE TO BE HONED IS CONNECTED AS THE OTHER ELECTRODE. THE SPHERICAL SURFACE OF THE TOOL IS ENCIRCLED BY A RING MEMBER FACED WITH AN ANBRASIVE SURFACE AND THE LATTER LIES WITHIN THE IMAGINARY SURFACE OF THE SPHERE. A SENSING NOZZLE IS DISPOSED ON THE
COMMON AXIS OF THE TOOL AND SPHERICAL SURFACE OF THE WORKPIECE.
Abstract:
A lapping tool includes a split, distendable, sleeve having alternate relatively coarse abrasive portions and relatively fine abrasive portions, the sleeve surrounding a plurality of wedgelike members arranged in two sets and carried by a slotted tool body. One set of wedge-like members lies inwardly of the coarser grained portions of sleeve and another set lies inwardly of the finer portions. The wedge angles of the first set are shallower than the second set so that as an expander acts progressively on the wedge-like members, the coarser portions of the sleeve are initially forced into contact with the bore of a workpiece and the finer portions are subsequently forced out beyond the coarser portions.
Abstract:
The vehicle comprises a chassis including a substantially flat frame for fixing the means for holding the front and rear wheels (or front and rear axles), and a body connected to the chassis by elastic elements adapted to filter noise and vibration. The frame of the chassis is thin and has high self-rigidity in its plane. The body is arranged so as to withstand, without notable deformation, torsion forces around the longitudinal direction of the vehicle and flexion forces under vertical load. The elastic linking elements between the body and the chassis are arranged to prevent, in practice, any vertical relative displacement and to enable slight relative longitudinal movement between the chassis and the body. The assembly is such that the body, fixed to the chassis opposes buckling of the latter.
