Abstract: Disclosed is a glass article. The glass article includes a cold-formed glass sheet having a first major surface and a second major surface. The second major surface is opposite to the first major surface. The first major surface has a curvature with a variable radius of curvature including a minimum radius of curvature at a vertex of the curvature. The curvature extends in a first direction from the vertex and in a second direction from the vertex. The first direction is opposite to the second direction. The variable radius of curvature continuously increases with increasing distance from the vertex in the first direction and in the second direction.

Abstract: Aspects of this disclosure relate to a method for selecting an adhesive for bonding a cold-formed glass to a metal substrate and various cold-formed products. In one or more embodiments, the cold-formed products include a structural substrate comprising a curved surface and structural substrate coefficient of thermal expansion (CTE), a cold-formed and curved glass substrate attached to the curved surface with an adhesive, the glass substrate comprising a glass substrate CTE, the structural substrate and adhesive forming a structural substrate/adhesive interface and the glass substrate and the adhesive forming a glass substrate/adhesive interface, wherein the glass substrate CTE and the structural substrate CTE differ, wherein the product withstands overlap shear failure as determined by modified test method ASTM D1002-10 at −40° C., 24° C., and 85° C. and tensile failure as determined by ASTM D897 at −40° C., 24° C., and 85° C. at one or both of the structural substrate/adhesive interface and the glass substrate/adhesive interface.

Abstract: Disclosed is a method of forming a glass article. In the method, a mid-frame is adhered to a glass sheet in a flat configuration. The glass sheet has a first major surface and a second major surface opposite to the first major surface. The mid-frame is adhered to the second major surface of the glass sheet. The glass sheet and mid-frame are bent over a forming surface of a chuck so that the glass sheet is in a curved configuration. The forming surface includes a first radius of curvature of 20 mm or more, and the first major surface of the glass sheet conforms to the forming surface. A frame is attached to the mid-frame, and the frame holds the glass sheet in the curved configuration.

Abstract: Disclosed is a method of forming a glass article in which a glass sheet is bent over a forming surface of a chuck. The forming surface defines a first shape including a curvature having a radius of curvature of 1000 mm or less, and the glass sheet includes a first major surface in contact with the forming surface. A frame is adhered to a second major surface of the glass sheet. The frame includes a frame support surface defining a second shape including a second curvature having a second radius of curvature of 1000 mm or less. A total force is applied to the glass sheet so that the glass sheet forms a third shape including a third curvature having a third radius of curvature of 1000 mm or less. The third shape deviates from the second shape by 2 mm or less across the frame support surface.
