    摘要： Provided are abrasive articles having a plurality of elongated channels extending across its working surface and intersecting with each other. These channels provide hinge points that enhance flexibility of the article along two or more directions. Optionally, the abrasive article includes a flexible attachment layer, along with apertures that penetrate through the attachment layer located at the intersection points of the channels. The enhanced flexibility allows the abrasive article to easily access recessed areas of the workpiece and facilitates applying even pressure across convex and concave surfaces. The channels assist in segregating dust particles from the abrading operation, and the optional apertures can be advantageously connected to a vacuum source for evacuation of the dust particles from the channels.

All three components are generally in registration with each other, thereby providing a pervasive uncoated area extending across the backing Advantageously, this configuration provides a coated abrasive that displays superior curl-resistance compared with previously disclosed abrasive articles. Moreover, this configuration resists loading, resists de-lamination, has enhanced flexibility, and decreases the quantity of raw materials required to achieve the same level of performance as conventional abrasive articles.

    摘要： Methods for imparting an image to a painted exterior surface on a motor vehicle and kits for use in such methods are described. The methods include applying a mask to an outer clearcoat layer of the painted exterior surface, the mask having a masked portion that covers part of the clearcoat layer and an open portion that leaves part of the clear coat layer exposed, the masked and open portions cooperating to define the image, abrading the exposed part of the clearcoat layer to provide it with a matte finish, and removing the mask to reveal an image having a matte finish region and an unabraded region. The clearcoat layer in the matte finish region of the image is capable of being provided with a surface gloss appearance that is consistent with the surface gloss appearance of the clearcoat layer in the unabraded region of the image and without painting the surface of the motor vehicle. The kits comprise a mask that is adapted to be removably attached to the outer clearcoat layer and an abrasive that is capable of removing a portion of the outer clearcoat layer to generate an image having a matte finish region and an unabraded region, and one or more materials that may be used to provide the outer clearcoat layer in the matte finish region of the image with a surface gloss appearance that is consistent with the surface gloss appearance of the clearcoat layer in the unabraded region of the image.

    摘要： The present invention provides a method of finishing a wood surface for exterior exposure of the wood using a finishing film material in the form of a sheet. The finishing film comprises a flexible polymeric sheet material having a first major surface and a second major surface and a pressure sensitive adhesive layer covering at least a portion of the first major surface of the sheet material. The finishing film is adhered to the surface to the wood surface by the adhesive layer. The method of the present invention is particularly suitable for the finishing of brightwork on boats, for example, teak or mahogany brightwork. The method of the present invention is particularly suitable for finishing curved and/or compound curved surfaces due to the flexibility and elongation of the finishing film.
