Abstract:
Emulsions of lipophiles such as glycerol monostearate which are compatible with acrylic copolymer emulsions are made stable by using an emulsion stabilizer such as polysorbate 80 in an amount by weight between 1% and 5% of the lipophile and homogenizing the emulsion wherein the emulsion micelles are less than 50 microns. The ability to make a stable emulsion of a lipophile is important in the coating process as it enables preparation and shipment of the lipophilic emulsion to the coater rather than the preparation of a lipophilic emulsion at the time of the coating process which involves a heating and cooling process.
Abstract:
A coating composition for use in coating foods, confections, nutraceuticals and pharmaceuticals is comprised of shellac in aqueous solution, a hydrolyzed starch product having a dextrose equivalent of 10 or greater and an effective amount of a plasticizer. The coating composition provides a surprisingly high gloss coating. The edible film coating composition solution may be stabilized by adding an effective amount of ethylene diamine tetraacetic acid salt wherein the solution may remain stable for at least three months. The ethylene diamine tetraacetic acid salt may include disodium, trisodium and tetrasodium salts of ethylene diamine tetraacetic acid. Preferably, the concentration of ethylene diamine tetraacetic acid is about 0.5% to 2% of the solution.

Abstract:
Systems, methods, and apparatus relating to the use of Stirling engine technology to convert heat, such as from solar radiation, to mechanical work or electricity. Apparatus, systems, components, and methods relating to energy converting apparatus are described herein. In one aspect, the invention relates to the field alignment of panels and the assembly of a concentrator. In another aspect, a passive balancer is used in combination with a ring frame and other moving masses to reduce engine forces and vibration on the structure of the energy converting apparatus while maintaining properly constrained alignment of various suspended masses. In yet another aspect, the invention relates to various over-insolation control and management strategy to prevent overheating of the energy converting apparatus or components and subsystems thereof.
Abstract:
A washing machine paddle includes a plurality of intake openings for collecting liquid at the bottom and rear of a drum of a front loading washing machine. Discharge openings are located on the paddle toward the front of the drum for discharging liquid therethrough. A baffle arrangement in the paddle directs the liquid collected from the intake openings to the discharge openings upon rotation of the drum to place the paddle into a top location. A drum arrangement and washing machine includes at least one such paddle mounted thereon.
Abstract:
The present invention pertains generally to a combination cargo carrier for a vehicle and portable table. The cargo carrier may include a base connected to one or more wings that have a retracted position that occupies a smaller volume than an extended position. A stand removably connects to the cargo carrier to form the portable table. In particular embodiments, the cargo carrier may also include a cargo bag having a collapsible frame.
Abstract:
An adapted LED is provided comprising a short-wavelength LED and a re-emitting semiconductor construction, wherein the re-emitting semiconductor construction comprises at least one potential well not located within a pn junction. The potential well(s) are typically quantum well(s). The adapted LED may be a white or near-white light LED. The re-emitting semiconductor construction may additionally comprise absorbing layers surrounding or closely or immediately adjacent to the potential well(s). In addition, graphic display devices and illumination devices comprising the adapted LED according to the present invention are provided.
Abstract:
The foot-operated, portable faucet includes a faucet spout that extends vertically from a housing. The housing includes at least one mounting bracket thereon such that said housing is adapted to be secured to a ground surface. The housing includes a female garden hose connection that is in fluid communication with a water valve. The water valve is also in fluid communication with the faucet spout. The water valve is controlled via a foot pedal that is pivotably engaged with respect to a side surface of the housing. When in use, the foot pedal is depressed in order for the water valve to open fluid communication from the female garden hose connection to the water spout. An alternative embodiment may include an auxiliary male garden hose connection. Other embodiments may utilize a faucet spout of varying heights that extend upwardly from the housing.
